I just swapped out mysummer GMC 20"s for my winter GMC 17"s getting an alignment thursady because I put a RC 2" level kit in, both sets have TPMS sensors in them.

took off the 20s and put the 17s on did a reset and headed around the truck as I did to learn the 20s I was luckly to get the first tire to be learned didnt detect any of the others tried 4 times going back to the dealers, Just to make sure I rolled my 20s back out to the truck and they learned fine.

From what I have read in here not all TPMS sensors are compatible with all trucks. Sounds like you have an issue with that to me.

....no I dont, the tires I put back on are the ones that came with it.

I ordered the 20"s and an extra set of sensors weeks after I took delivery of the truck

and dealer took off the 17"s and put the 20"s on the sensors work on them. ITs the d**n tires that came with the truck only like 1 or 2 are working now

Well if that's the case then obviously they should work. I'm told that the batteries in the sensors were designed to work for 5 years plus but I guess that would be a good place to look if you can't get it to program. We have had to replace a few GMT900 sensors that went bad as well.

cant wait to come back to the site in 5 years and see all the posts for sensors that have died

GM better have a good pile of them in 5 years when 1000s start going dead, otherwise we will have to stare at the dash lights or even worse it wont pass inspection till thats fixed

Not a problem for us that don't have those ridiculous inspections. But on every NBS I've test drove so far, the low pressure light was on and the tires were usually like 32 psi or something. Pretty dumb.

 

And usually people would have replaced their tires and/or wheels by the time they've had a vehicle for 5 years, if they even keep it that long. I know I will have a new vehicle by the end of the 3rd year.

Anybody know if the batteries can be replaced or if you have to buy a new sensor when it quits?

Probably would just replace the sensor. I'll probably take one apart eventually and see what makes it tick.

Valve stems are supposed to be replaced every 2-3 years anyways, at least the standard rubber ones, it does seem ridiculous that it should be forced on us. Before long someone will come out with a tuner that'll get rid of that nonsense.
