Hey, Jeff, have you tried Tire Rack? I think they have a guide to help you plus size your tires.

A 1500HD is not a 1500. It's has all the characteristics of a 3/4 ton including 8 hole rims and a 8600 GVW (a dodge cummins 2500 only has a 8800 GVW).

The marketing badging continues to bite and fool folks. Just go by the GVWR of the

vehicle, that is a real number & badge. "HD" modifies the 1500/2500/3500 to a higher

rating. Ditto "heavy duty", "super duty", etc, etc.

Mainly for those who won't buy the right sized and continue to insist on

a 'half ton', so they buy a 1500HD, which is a 3/4 ton with some feature

removed.

Not just tire size that causes it to rub, but the wheel attributes. Rim width

and offset are the main ones.

Suspension lifts increase the drive line angle, which reduces power delivered

to the diff pumpkin. Ditto larger dia or rev's per mile increase, affect the power

delivered to the diff pumpkin.

A good friend of mine just put 305's on his 06 1/2 ton, doenst rub at all. The kicker, STOCK rims. ive had 305's in the past, with a 3" body lift and they rubbed at full turn. Kinda pissed me off when they rubbed but it wasnt that bad, and i eventually trimmed so they didnt anymore. check diesel place for what you can fit on 3/4 ton, switching tires is one of the first things they due to drop rpm so they can keep the dmax under 2k, cuz if its over 2k its seems to be thirsty.

3/4 ton and larger trucks (GM full sized) sit higher than half ton

because the frame rails are about 2 inches bigger.

This is in stock form and why 2500's (including 1500HD's) can

stuff larger dia tires than half tons.

Going that wide on stock rims (6.5" wide on steel and 7"

on alloy, both stock) will have too much sidewall bend

back for me and on most tire rim width specifications.

The tire performance will suffer, but ride quality will improve

greatly with too narrow of rims and the larger sidewall

bend back.
