Oil Cooler Lines

My local dealers/ autoparts stores can't seem to get me the right replacement oil cooler lines for my 98 chevy p30 step van. I have heard of people cutting off the rubber part flaring the aluminum tubes that are left and putting high pressure hydraulic hose in between with regular hose clamps. Has anyone done this and how well does it hold up? I tryed to get a local hydraulic place to do this for me and they refused saying that it was to much liability if something went wrong. I don't care I would sign a waiver if they would do it but they said no. then I asked if they would sell me the hose and they said no oil cooler lines are different. Whatever :ughdance: Anyway anyone got any suggestions or luck on this subject?

You would not be able to clamp hyd hose with regular clamps because it contains at least one wrap of steel braid and most contain 2.

You can buy hose which is rated for hot oil and I would think you could patch the line as long as you can get a good flare on it and if possible use 2 wide band clamps on each end. Aux oil coolers come with this hose and clamps so you should be fine.
