Question About Abbreviations And Terms

I'm new here and hoping someone could explain what these things mean.

 

Fob or FOB key?

 

nbs New body style? I see this one allot.

 

 

Tune? Is this an aftermarket tuneup done by a dyno shop on all engines or just the diesel? Is this referring to the addition of a chip or reprogramming certain aspects of the motor?

How does it affect the engine and tranny and what is the sole purpose of getting a tune?

 

One other question, can you get the 6 speed tranny with the 6.0 motor on the 08 1500? I keep coming up with the 4 speed heavy duty tranny when I try to configure the truck.

Fob or FOB key? The FOB is the remote Control for power door locks.

 

nbs New body style? The 07 and up trucks on the new platform (GMT-900)

 

 

Tune? A tune can be a reporgrammed PCM (controls the engine), whether done by a shop or with a handheld tuner.

 

How does it affect the engine and tranny and what is the sole purpose of getting a tune? It can significantly increase hp and torque as well as improve mileage and throttle response. You get a tune for better overall performance.

 

One other question, can you get the 6 speed tranny with the 6.0 motor on the 08 1500? Pretty sure its 09 before thats available on trucks, but I could be wrong.

By the way, fob is pronounced like "Bob", not spelled out like F-O-B.

It's not an acronym but an actual word. It was originally a pocket that you kept a watch or keys in, then a decrotive object hanging off the watch chain. It's the proper word for what people refer to as a key-chain.
