Bf Goodrich At/ko's

I am having a problem with "loaded Run-out" (when the truck gets some weight in it they wobble) with my Goodyear AT/S. I am replacing them next week and I am planning on getting BF Goodrich AT/KO"S Any opinions. I need a good AT tire.

 

Is anyone eles having problems with vibration on a NBS and these tires?

I have always been a huge fan of the AT/Ko , but they are a little limited in there tread life, at least the good part of the tread. I like them mainly because they look good, they are quiet and typically ride smooth.

 

Recently I wanted to get some real ATs for my SD King Ranch and in the size I needed 18"s there were not any BFG AT/KOs that would work. So I have since started usning this Goodyear Silent Armor AT for not only my personal truck I just mentioned, but also several of my 3/4 ton fleet trucks and my Jeep Commander. I have been real pleased with them so far. They are Kevlar belted, super quiet, and puncture resistant.

 

 

 

Two high-tensile steel belts and a layer made with KEVLAR® that's, pound for pound, five times stronger than steel

 

They also offer them load range E for a heavy duty applications, like 3/4 and 1 ton trucks

The tire dealer that I am working with also suggested them (Goodyear silent armor). Goodyear is suppose to be a good brand and if I hadn't had any problems then I would have considered getting another set. I am now a little gun-shy of Goodyear. This is my second set that I feel just did not hold up. My first set being on a 2002 dodge. I only have 16000 miles and these tires are out of round. My concern was has anyone had any out of round problems or balancing issues with a BF goodrich. The new set that I get will be "road force " balanced which I guess is better. I really don't know. I guess I am looking for another brand.

BFG makes a 18" tire. Just bought some 285/65/18 for my o7 seirra. love them so far but do wish they were a tad wider

Ya I know, But the size I needed for a super duty KR was a 275/70/18 E load range. It seems there was only one AT/Ko at the time and it was larger than what I had, and I was concerned about clearance issues getting the truck in the garage with the tall tires, not to mention rub issues.

 

Keep in mind what Goodyear sells the mfgs for OE tires are based on price, meaning cheapest tire typicaly get the contract. The Silent Armor is more of a top of the line tire for Goodyear where the OE tires are more bottom of the line so to speak.

 

Dealing with a business fleet and my personal cars I buy at least a dozen sets of tires, or more every year. I have had bad or defective tires from about every brand out there. We had a new Grand mark last year that came with michelins and after a year and only 4k they had horrible sidewall cracking and Ford replaced all 4 no charge. BFG/Michelin/uniroyal are the same company now days with Michelin being there top of the line. So it can, and does happen even to the best of brands.

 

If you like the AT/Ko's and they offer the size you need, go for it. Those are really good tires, I like them a lot .

I have had the AT/KOs on my last two trucks, I absolutely love them. I drive in everything from mud to snow to rain and they've never let me down.

I put the BFG A/T KO's, P285/75/16's on my 2000 Sierra Z71 and I loved them, but I will NEVER buy them ever again. They threw rocks like a MOFO.

How many miles did you get out of them?

 

I want to say it was like 43-44K miles. They probably could go a little bit more but I am starting to loose some traction. The past 2 yrs I only have run them from Nov-April since I have a set of BFG MT's that I put on for spring/summer.

Has any one had any luck doing the procedure in the manual?

I will be getting my second set of BFG AT's this week. I loved my last set and their a bit pricey at $170 each but worth it.

I have worked for Discount Tire Co. since i was 15 so i know a thing or three about the bfg a/t's and the goodyear silent armors. First off the goodyears are VERY hit or miss. I usually adjust out 4-5 sets of the Silent Armors or Comfort Tred/ Triple Tred (car tires) each day due to the lack of life on the tires. The Silent Armors are rated for 70,000 which is rediculous to expect from any all terrain tire to start. They usually last less than 50,000. Some even get as low as half the life....especially in the heavier load ranges. It is a rather smooth riding tire but the KO's are just as smooth in most cases and usually last beyond their 50,000 mile rating depending on how low you are willing to let your tread get (2/32 is the recommended). As far as puncture resistance thats a joke. I write up more flat repairs on the goodyears in a day than i do on the BFG's in a week. The KO's are a much stronger tire and the traction barely even comparable between the two. The BFG's even have a 3 ply sidewall as apposed to the 2 ply sidewall you will get with most all terrains. The reason the KO's have gone up in price is because of BFG's newly released BAZ technology. I won't go into the details, but you can always look that up on their website. Most people are satisfied with the immediate results of the Goodyears because they had some crappy worn down tires on their vehicle (usually firestone/bridgestone *vomit*). The BFG's do have problems in bigger sizes as every tire does with being "out of round". This is usually easily fixed by using a ride match system to offset the heavy spot on the wheel with the heavy spot on the tire. If you buy from us (*wink wink*) we will usually even swap the tire out with a different one if it is still causing problems after being ride matched. Also a side note....BFG does make several sizes in the 18" now since many of the heavier ford trucks have begun stocking 18's. Don't be a fool....Goodyear's latest tires have been far less than satisfactory and entirely overpriced. I hope this has been helpful.

 

PS the TPMS instructions on the chevy/gm's should be fairly easy to follow. If you are having them installed by a dealer they should be able to reset it for you. Note that you may want to do away with your sensors all together though if you are considering carrying much more pressure in your new tires than the OE's.

also about the SD King Ranches.....I have put up to a 325 on the F-250s without rubbing on stock suspension so there should not have been any problem with clearance.
