2000 Chevrolet Silverado Ls

Just sold one of my vehicles yesterday. I'm always looking for a "weekend project" type of vehicle.

Well, I happened to run across this '00 Silvy about 7 weeks ago...it is at a small used car dealer. I've already bought a few cars off this guy awhile ago, so we really get along good, and he'll really work on the price with me. Here it is:

2000 Chevy Silverado LS

116,000 miles on it

Extended Cab 3-Door Model

Bright Red exterior

Charcoal Gray interior

Console with Buckets

Factory Window Tint

Z-71 Off Road 4x4

5.3 V8

Good shape all-around

Originally at $11,995

Sale-tagged at $9,900

Opinions?? I checked KBB on this one...and it's really freakin' me out. KBB is only putting this truck in the $6k - $7k range...

Opinions?? I know it's gotta be worth more than what KBB is saying...and I'd like to be "in-it" cheap enough where I could sell it next year and turn a small profit...

I just (last March) traded my 2000 GMC Sierra SLE (same as LS), Z71, 5.3, Ext cab 3-door, loaded with dual power buckets (no leather). It had 90K miles and was black with pewter interior and in MINT condition, not even a scratch. Most dealers in town would only offer me about 9K for it so I was planning on selling it myself. Then my dealer offered me 12K for it based on my description alone (sight unseen) and offered to order mine and sell for invoice less any rebates ( I ended up with 2K in rebates, so bought for 2K under invoice). Turns out my brother wanted it so we did a dealer pass-through so I could get the sales tax savings and the 1K trade-in allowance (1 of 2 1K rebates) and he bought it for 12K plus a $250 admin fee. So, it's still in the family. My dealer wanted it and was willing to pay me for it because he had no other trucks like it on his lot and it was in such nice shape (he verified it's condition the next time I came with it). He was a little bummed with the pass-through because he admitted he could have gotten about 14K for it off his lot. But he was OK with the pass-through too.

That's too much for a base model with a couple options and over 100k miles. Go look for an LT 4x4 with under 100k miles, if you have that money to spend.

$9,900 sounds pretty fair to me. KBB on my truck which sounds somewhat close to that one (mine has the 4th door option) 112,000 miles is:

$12,585 Dealer Retail

$9,535 Private Party (Good Condition)

$7,455 Trade-in (Good Condition)

Prices vary a lot in different areas of the country on different vehicles. Something might be selling well in certain states and thus worth more, versus the same vehicle might not be in demand somewhere else and be worth a couple grand less or even more. Those trucks seem to really sell well in my area even with the gas prices.

Like I said, that price sounds fair to me, but can/will you make money on it at that price? Probably not. But then again when messing with cars and trucks it's much easier to lose money than make it. It's still fun, but costly sometimes.

    • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
