Tm Disable?

Recommended Posts

I have read this and other forums for months trying to get an idea on how to disable the stupid TM/delay feature on my Yukon. When I step the gas I want to GO. There seems to be a lot of tuning options available, but none so far that disable it permanently. Are tuners working on this? Does anybody have an idea when this will be "unlocked". I don't want to spend hundreds of dollard on tuners that are only a bandaid for the real problem, only to have someone finally unlock the TM/delay featuers. Any comments?

if your tranny is stock ...id leave it alone.....its their for a reason especially if you have the 4l60E not that its a bad tranny but i wouldnt put to much strain on it.

Good advice.

However, you can remove percentages of the TM. The Diablo sport predator does it for pre 07 trucks for sure, as for anything falling in the NBS styling, I am not too sure yet.

Its not there so much for the trans apparently as it is for the rear diff. An LS series engine, even in stock form can make steel wool out of a rear diff pretty quickly.

Check out the diablo web site, http://www.diablosport.com/index.php and see whats available and what is exactly tunable for your application.

Jesse said he got rid of most of my Tq. mgt. upon request, but he beefed up my line pressure to help ease the wear on the tranny.

The Yukon came with the optional HD trans cooler. I plan on no additional mods except for the obligitory K&N filter change. I just need the oversized slug to "GO" when I step on the gas. My stock 350 TBI equipped 93 2wd pickup with 3.42 gears will scoot from 0-20 faster than my 320 hp Yukon 2wd with 3.73 gears! Now, from 20-70 it is noooo contest. Not looking for a race car, just something that moves when I say GO!

You just need a hand held....you wont need to remove all the TM for this either, maybe start at 30%.

The Diablo will bump you to about the 350hp area too with a fairly economical premium fuel tune.

I know exactly how you feel dude..my truck has the same leg off the lights. If you punch it, it will move pretty quickly, but fuel consumption than becomes a problem. I am waiting for the new diablo trinity to come out though, it looks like it could be a cool part.

Maybe I am not requesting the right thing. Is TM the reason for the delay in power when you mash the gas? If so, isn't it only a problem with 07 and newer vehicles?

Yes its your problem, No, its on anything with an LS series engine in it, and removing it all together will turn your diff into mush and your trans will soon follow.

In order to remove it all, as a bare minimum, You have to up your line pressure, install a shift kit or use a programmer to change shift points and durations, pop in a set of corvette servos, and ensure you lift off when your trans is going to shift.

With TM totally removed, there will be NO mashing the gas from a dead stop, this will cause shock load on you're diff and it will grenade, just like not lifting off the gas for the 1-2 and 2-3 shift at WOT, it too will cause shock loading.

Think about it, your 93 had about 220hp and maybe 250 ft-lbs....now you have 320 and like 350. The trans and rear diff have stayed the same... Chevy, rather than spending big bucks to make something hold up to the s**t and abuse, decided to spend less money and get a computer wieney to write some programs to limit torque at different points to enable them to use the same parts and still warranty them.

You wont have to remove it all, just a portion of it. If you removed just 30% with a handheld tuner the truck would jump and run, and blow your old truck out of the water. not to mention you'd get about 30 ponies more and possibly the same TQ increase....now you'd be in spitting distance of 400 ft-lbs, and that aint not bad.

Well said!!!

If your truck wasn't a 2007 I'd say take it to a dyno and tell them to make it drive the way it should. A good safe drive train, something I need to look into, would be an eaton LSD or Detroit Tru Trac axle differential (because the G80 is a ticking time bomb, some clocks longer than others), and a good shift kit, 2nd and 4th gear servos, new clutches and bands, boost valves etc. for the tranny.

With all that, I'd feel safe tossing in a 3000+ stalled TC, and wide open throttle launching with slicks, with zero torque management. For the ultimate transmissions you'll want to look into tranny builders like FLT and just order a built 4l60 and trade yours in.

Your saying my transmission programming is the reason it has no snap when I hit the go pedal from a dead stop. Should I talk to tuners like Diablo/Edge and tell them exactly what I need. Remember, no race car needed. Just a bit of pop when I say GO. This is especially true when I tow my small camper.

Diablo/Edge make handheld tunersnot custom tunes (about 95% sure). For that you would need someone like Jesse at Wait4Me. If you call him and tell him what you want I'm sure he could give you what you want.

If I remember correctly the site is Wait4MePerformance.com

Your best bet is to get a diablo handheld. If you get a custom tune, due to the lack of ECM availability for 06 and up, you would have to send your ECM in and get it tunned. If you ever had to have warranty work done, there would be no way of hiding the fact that you have a tune.

The handheld will store your stock tune, so if you have it serviced you could reset it back to stock in a few minutes and there would be no worries.

You can play with some of the TM on the handheld unit, and find what you're happy with...a 10% reduction, increased line pressure, and some modifications to the shift points may make you happy. Or you may want everything removed and have it shifting like a kicking mule. The biggest thing is that you can play with it, start small and work your way up where you feel happy.

Plus, you can save up to 5 programs I believe on the unit, so you can have one for every type of driving situation. Including a reduced power tune for valet purposes.
