are they're any telltale signs that my g80 would be on its last leg? I dont beat on my truck much but i do have fun occasionaly and when i first got my truck it would slide around any corner with ease when the roads are wet, now it seems to not lock up like it used to, it doesnt lock up as easy anyway, i did get new tires that may have sumthing to do with it, before i could go around a turn and punch it about halfway and it would lock and id go sideways but now it just spins single track and only locks occasionaly. do you think my locker could be on its way out, how do they normally act when they go out.

It wont matter what type of differential you have but if you go around corners and spin the tires your going to ruin the differential. No rear end will live under that abuse. When your going around a corner the outer wheel is turning more revolutions than the wheel on the inside of the turn. The internal parts are taking extreme abuse.

Unless your G80 is locked, at which point the tires are both spinning the same speed. I've put 200k miles on a G80 locker in a 3/4 ton 1989 suburban. In the rain it is great fun in corners. That was one of the first years for the Eaton "cam lock" style locker. Over time, the engagement point did get slower and slower, but changing the rear end fluid and including some of limited slip additive helped. There are clutches in this rear end that help it lock, so it makes sense.

I'd do a fluid change and see if it helps.

I was never able to get mine G80 in the 10 bolt rear to kick out in corners. It would always smoke the inner tire. If i would chain to something and pull on it, the one tire would make about one turn before it would lock and spin both. My 14 bolt 10.5" however is a different story, it locks with ease, i can easily kick the rear of the truck out in corners with it but i tend to avoid that. Having a crew cab long bed and sliding around corners is a little funny, thats a lot of truck out there swinging around. as redvett said though, doing that is very hard on diffs and in a smaller rear can wipe them out in no time. With this type diff i'd think it would go all at once but i could be wrong. Mine in my 8.5 rear went all at once. I think the clutches are there to help tame the bang the g80 is notorious for.
