Z-71 Air Filter

OK guys....Happy Thanksgiving.....I just got to looking at my window sticker from my 2008 GMC 1500 SLT Z-71 4X4.

 

The Z-71 package comes with a high flow air filter. Is it the same size and shape as a non-Z-71 truck just with different media for the high flow filtration?

 

I ask because I ordered a K&N drop-in filter and now wondering if I even need it? Would the K&N still be better? Is it going to fit? They did not ask if it was a Z-71 so I'm thinking the air box is the same as the others....

Actually its a "High-Capacity" air filter (RPO code K47)

It has nothing to do with flow,and yes,the air box itself is the same.

Your K&N will fit allright.

As far as I can tell the "high capacity air filter" option is just a plain old paper filter with deeper pleats.

 

The K&N your ordered will fit, but if you do some searching you will find most are steering clear of the K&N due to insufficient filtering and the oil the filter uses is said to gum up the MAF and throttle body. I have used them in the past and never had a problem, but now there are so many more options that are better than a K&N IMO that I decided to get somethign different.

Paper filters work just fine when new and flow as much as a K&N. It's when they get dirty where a K&N may flow more than paper media.

OK...Great, thanks for the help. I know about the K&N oil deal, I've had one on our Hummer for about 5 months now and on our Toyota Camry for over 3 years and have not had and problems.

 

Most of the guys on the Hummer forum clean the MAFS every year and are reporting very little dirt or oil so I thought I would put one on my truck.
