My 01 silvy has a problem of not starting every once in a while, the security light will come on sometimes allso.I can let it sit for about 10 min. then it will start, had a friend hook his alldatta up to it and he thought it would be the ign. switch. Now do I replace the key and tumbler set or ??we allso switched realys around and cleaned all connections to the BCM.My friend is out of town for the holidays so I'm asking you all for some help.I did a search here and found allot of problems with this security light fiasco but no real answers I guess I need to start throwing parts at it.Will I need to use the all datta for the swap of ign clynder or any thing else???Thanks for the help

From past exrerience which is alot security lights are not always a easy fix. On o1 silverados I have replaced the ignition switch and ignition case and reprogram the theft system 9 times out of 10 it fixs the issue. Never replaced the bcm for a security issue but thats not to say that is your problem. you could try unpluging everything and reconnecting may help. As far as ignition cly no need to peplace that unless your key is binding. i hope this helps a little

the basics are gone, now the ign switch is separate from the tumbler,no programing for the switch ,the tumbler has the passlock sensor in it ,and a system relearn is required.,take to a dealership and lets the pros do it ,it seems you may be in a little deep on this one, good luck

The ignition case has the passlock sensor in it and the ignition cly sides into it. The tumblers are in the ingnition cly no need to replace it unless your key is binding. Also the ignition switch which is basicly a harness with a switch on one end and a couple connectors the other end a larger buss connector which plugs into your harness at the bottom of your steering column. I believe in the ignition switch harness there is a passlock resistor so if you replace either item you will need to reprogram so off to the dealer you go. If I was you and you are having a int problem I would replace both and reprogram forget trying to diag a int sercuity problem it's not gonna happen. later
