What Is Nav Disc Doing With Engine Off Key Out?

What in the world is the Nav DVD doing when the truck is shut off and the key is removed?

 

pent the day putting Zaino on my new truck and every time I went inside, I could hear the DVD accessing. No CD in so it is definitely the Nav DVD seeking. Any thoughts?

I think it's the GPS always checking on your current position

You may be right. It makes sense anyhow. Kind of stupid though. The ignition was off all day so it should have know I wasn't going anywhere. I get a little nervous with all these electrical accessories draining the battery. Oh well.

Just went thru a couple of rounds with my dealer on that. I thought it was running ALL THE TIME.

 

I did not really believe his explanation, so I figured out a way to test it.

 

If you will notice, after driving for a while and you turn off the truck... the screen will be warm to the touch. Let it sit for a few hours and the screen will cool off to the inside temperature of the truck. If it was always running, it would never cool off.

 

What happens is.... you open the door...it starts booting up. It is assuming that you opened the door to get in and go someplace. It takes it a fair amount of time to boot and doing it this way, it is ready sooner when you do decide to use it. So every time you opened the door when you were waxing it... it thought you were ready to go someplace and it was going to help you get there.

 

It also runs for a few minutes after you kill the engine and remove the keys. It is doing two things.

One...it stays booted up for a few minutes.

Two... there is a cooling fan that runs for a few minutes LONGER, after the NAV DVD finally shuts off.

 

At least that is the way MINE works.

Texas Jim, that makes sense since all the stock radios (at least the ones I have) run for a while after you turn the vehicle off using the fans to cool off.
