Well the customer left her truck at the the shop all day, which I like becasue I dont have to rush. So I did her service and some other repairs and left the remaining work for later.

I had to find out why her wipers would only work on high, no big deal, I take the steering wheel cover off and do a resistance test on the switch and that check out ok.

(the wipers lever switch)

I put it back together and the d**n security light comes on and the truck keeps shutting off. So my question is how does GM fix this, my boss thought it was becasue I F*cked up the switch, well i kinda did becasue now the headlight dont come on.

So we go a switch coming in overnight, but now that i read up on the passlock ll, I found out its only something GM can do, or buy a PLJX which isnt going to happen

oh, its a gmc sierra 4.8 i believe

well,it seems as though you snagged somthing ,it has to come apart again,if you left the steering wheel on,thats is a good cheat but it burned you dude, take it apart, take a look, what year truck?

well I have everything apart already. the trucks a 2000. and I'v had 2 other mechanics look at it as well.

Their was one broken wire, the OD wire broke, but was already worn out. See on the switch they have them stupid designs where its pretty hard to take off the connector from the switch, and like what happened to me today the metal clips get stuck to the pins. So im guessing something came apart inside.

What about the passlock, anyway of me disableing it or bypassing it...anything that I can do tommrow so the lady can have her truck.....its $650 for a new switch from the d**n deal

oh, btw....the steering wheel can stay on, just turn the wheel and take out a T25 torxs on the said and top for the switch

i know the wheel can stay on,i ve done a thousand of them,no you cannot bypas the passlock it is part of the tumbler,it sends a signal to the bcm, then from there ,bcm says to the pcm to start the truck, pcm grounds inside to pull the relay over to power up purple wire to starter solinoid, you may have to take it to a dealer.

What about the BCM, I tried reading it with our scanner and everytime I goto data display it just says theirs no communication.

All the other functions work on the scanner like engine, tranns, ect. well if the switch doesnt work, which I doubt then I'll start doing test and take off the panel underneath.

I'll post back on the 3rd, when s*it hits the fan, lol

Thats out of the question, nothing goes to the dealers unless its on warranty. Its not worth haulling it 3 hours away pluse it would make us look really bad.

I'll see what the other mechanics say, I only have a year under my belt so maybe they might know.

Has to be a broken wire, everything worked fine befor so i guess a wire must of came loose or broke when i was trying to get the switch connector off, which by the way was a stupid build even for GM

okay, i feel stupid.

I went to work and seen the truck was gone and asked what the problem was, my boss gives me a dirty look and says I thought you checked the fuses.

So I missed on little 10amp fuse... I think I will never forget this.. Man did I ever screw up, lol
