Exhaust! ( Yes Again)

I have been reading for almost 3 hours on here about the exhaust that we can put on out toys..so now I think I am really confused on what to get... I have been all over youtube as well checking clips and so on...so thought I would make a thread to help myself keep my info straight for purchase ...

OK I have a 07 Sierra Crew Cab Z71 4X4 5.3L

money is a concern as well...well when isn't it...

I like the Magnaflow single that comes out where the stock exit is... but I think I read that they do not make a cat back for Crew cab?

Then I hear Flowmasters Cat back? or do you get the muffler and piece it together at the shop?...Etc...

Borla - pricey but friend is a dealer so I would get it for cost

Corsa - same deal but I think at cost it will still be pricey for sure...

Then I also heard a 07 like mine with the muffler gone and a straight pipe welded there and sounds pretty good as well but Loss of low end? Engine running hotter?

we all know there are so many options but Help for real...This site has helped so much but I think I read to much to the point of confusion now...

ok just an update I think I found the MagnaFlow for the 07 Crew cab so I think I did read wrong

Thanks Guys / Gals :)

I just bought a Corsa Sport system from TByrne. Mine was for the 6.2, so it's not apples to apples, but I'm very happy with it. Tom has real good prices on the Corsas, so you might want to check it out if you haven't already.

Thanks for the help..I knwo this thread it beat to death but there is so much info you never know what is what after you read it all... I will check on the Corsa... I did find the Mag for the crew cab though and I heard one of those and it was what I want for sure...but then you read more stuff and then you second guess everything again..

Yea I hear that. I always try to research everything as much as I can before I do it, and sometimes it just gets to the point where you're experiencing information overload. It's like, "I just want to get this done!" Exhausts are especially difficult to choose, as there are so many good options out there and it just comes down to personal preference. My Corsa, for example, is actually a bit quieter than stock; and I got the sport sytem! I like it though, as the sound is mellow and very pleasing, especially under moderate to heavy throttle.

Speaking from experience. Don't buy the MAGNAFLOW. It will resonate something fierce inside your cab and you'll have to put a resonator in just drone it down. Go with a Corsa, Flowmaster or Borla. Anything, anything but, a Magnaflow!

I've had my Magnaflow on for 3 years and taken many trips and don't have any issues with Drone. You can hear it, but that's what I paid all that money for!

I wonder if it's because mine is single in dual out on a 5.3 L???? The drone was hideous really hideous. Like being on an Airplane.

Thats what I have Chuck..the 5.3 and I want the exit where the stock pipe is..

What about a straight pipe? keep the cat of course...and just weld a pipe in there, I can get that done for nothing..I heard that as well on a single 5.3 and it sounded real good..but low end torque loss yes? Engine run hot?

I guess if it is not the sound I want I can always weld in another muffler?

Been there done that. Don't go cheap on your exhaust or you'll pay for it later. I did that on my last truck.

I wanted a little rumble at cruise and when I got on it. I put a Magnaflow on it because everyone raved how good they were. It lasted 2 weeks. It's loudest point was a cruise at between 1600 and 2200 rpm.

At the Performance.net site they raved about the FloPro. It was supposed to have more rumble than stock, but not too loud. I tried that. Now it was quieter than stock. It sounded good at idle, but that was it. I felt like Goldilocks.

I originally wanted a Corsa, but they didn't make one for the 1500 HD / 2500 crewcab models. I talked to a guy at Quadrasteer Club.com who put on a Corsa system for a 2500HD and all he had to do was have his muffler guy change some hanger locations. I found one on eBay for 1/2 price of Corsa's site and had it put on. Let me tell you, it does what it says it'll do - quiet at cruise and bold at WOT. This is the world's greatest muffler in my opinion.

If you do a lot of towing you might want to get the Touring set-up, the Sport can get a on you a little if you're towing up a long grade, otherwise the Sport is a great set-up.

There's plenty of Corsa converts on this site that'll tell you not to mess with the others - go to Corsa first and you'll be money ahead in the long run.

Good Luck,

SS

ok sounds good I will talk to my buddy and find out what cost is for my truck so I can do figures for the cash flow...So many freaking choices! and then you read so much you go into overload!

I will research the Corsa alone and see whats up...

OK after doing another few hours of research...I think I might just change the muffler with a magnaflow 14 inch ..now would I need a straight in /out since thats what ours looks like? ( from what i can see) and the stock pipe are what 2.50? so get that size inlet/outlet? Noob here I am sure all these qusetions have been asked so many times...It has been a long time since I worked on a American V8

SO what is the best way to do this?

I had this with my flowmaster original 40 series, put my stock intake back on and it was fixed, now my engine won't be sucking in that dirt the k&n let in. You should have seen how dusty the k&n's tube was, that was a mistake. K&N 77 Series Intake for sale!
