Engine Swap

I have a 2008 NBS Silverado 1500 W/T package, the base of the base. I was wondering how much of an undertaking it would be to swap in a 6.0L or even a 8.1L into it.

A 6 liter would be cake and real easy, everything bolts up... an 8.1L is a whole different story/book/novel/dictionary. Not really worth it. If your gonna do it go for the 6.0l.

Is there any difference's in the trasmission between the 4.3 and the 6.0. And how far diffent is it to plug in the new wireing harness and the computer from the big 8

Dammit I didn't even think of the V6. If you have the 4l60 auto, the 6.0l will bolt up. Not sure about wiring. I do know the exhaust will be different.

I'm really wondering how different the wiring and engine control is on the nbs and how hard that will be i know what im facing with the exhaust

lol Dammit it's a NNBS too. I know on NBS 99-up (non NNBS) for a V6 to 4.8/5.3/6.0 you need - engine, full wiring harness, and a V8 PCM OR get the stock PCM re flashed to V8 parameters. Nelson performance can do that.

I was thinking, and the cranks won't match up.

 

IMO, a quick guess would be this. The simplest was to swap to a V8 would be to find a 4.8l, preferably one from a truck with a manual, otherwise you'd have to swap cranks (since you have a manual) with a 4.8 that was in a truck that had a manual tranny. The motor mounts are different, but thats an easy fix, probably in that write up on the link I put up. But anyways, a 4.8 from a manual truck is your best bet. You can punch it out and put a cam in it and what not, but I see a 6.0 swap to a truck with a 4.3 and manual a pain in the ass.

Did they finally get rid of the distributer in the NNBS 4.3's? If your V6 has coil packs your game and the swap won't be as nightmarish.

Did you do your engine swap yet? How did it turn out?
