Question About An Antenna

I'm wondering if an antenna like this one,Antenna, will work with my CB. I found one in my garage and i'm pretty sure it will fry my CB since it's made for scanners. Anyone know about this? Thanks

Covers 25 to 1300MHz. It's made for scanner receiving. Even if you can pickup a CB channel or two, it isn't designed for broadcasting.

ahhh... my amatuer radio days are storming out of the deep recesses of what's left of my mind......

 

you "may" be able to use it to broadcast on the CB (11m) band, but, at the very LEAST it probably wouldn't be very efficient at it. I assume you are broadcasting at standard CB output levels, which, if memory serves, is around 5 Watts.

 

In any case, if you're particularly motivated to use it for CB transmission, I would certainly check the SWR on it during transmit (Standing Wave Ratio). If the SWR is near zero (if I remember clearly), you'll be OK --- but, again, not terribly efficient on broadcast. You'll probably receive "ok" .

 

I would go with a 1/4 wave bottom-loaded antenna designed specifically for the 11m band.

 

Using a bad antenna is the equivalent of hooking up $10 speakers to a $1000 head unit in your car. Conversely, $1000 speakers with a cheap head unit will STILL sound pretty dang good. (The antenna is the "speakers")

Well you seem pretty insightful on this. I assumed that it wouldnt do much w/ the CB but i figured i'd ask the experts here. I've had my CB in for about a year now with no antenna. I mainly use it for my PA system so an antenna wasnt necessary but i guess i'll pick me up a firestick pretty soon.
