I have a 2000 Silverado Z71....in the manual it states that below 32 degrees you will notice a difference in the shifting....due to otpimizing heater output....now up until this morning it did not seem to be too much of a problem...it was 5 here and after 10 minutes of warming and 10 minutes of driving it finially shifted into 3rd....does anyone else suffer simular experencies....how on a normal 20 to 30 degree day, it only takes about 5 minutes of driving to shift....once it shifts once that day, it is ok the rest....any thoughts....Thanks Dave

My 2000 does the exact same thing when its cold out......It wont shift into 3rd until the rpms get to about 2500.....once it shifts then all shifting is fine.....only does it when its real cold out though.

I recall the design is to keep the transmission in lower gears or from shifting in its top gear. This is to increase RPMs, warming the engine faster. once the engine is up to operating temp, it should shift as normal.

*If you let the truck warm up (ie idle in the driveway) to operating temp before going anywhere, it should operate as normal.

they just passed a law here that if caught warming up your unattended vehicle it will cost you up to $1000.00 for a first offense........most do it anyway...I do, but not as long as I should......Dave

Does the law have any excpetions such as remote start systems which disable the vehicle if someone should try to drive off or steal it?
