6.0l Manifold Bolts

My 2000 Silverado 2500 with 6.0L has broken manifold bolts. I know that this is common with these engines, but my question is whether or not I need to worry about it now. The drivers side has broken the 1st and last bolt. The passanger side has only the 1st broken. I think I might hear a small exhaust leak when cold, but not after it has warmed up. Will I mess up anything by running it like that? Thanks.

No it will not harm anything. If you are mechanicly inclined it is not that bad a job of taking the manifolds off. You might get lucky and the broken bolts might come out with vicegrips. The new bolts from GM have bigger heads and should not break off.

I plan on changing them, I just wanted to wait till it warmed up a little. Thanks for the input.

Two of mine broke recently....the heads popped right off! I got some new ones from gmpartshouse and it only took me like 5 hrs to take off the manifold, turn the old studs out, and install the new bolts.

What a PITA! I would strongly suggest that anyone with 100k mi or more just change out their bolts before the heads break off and you need to remove studs for an afternoon!

Did the new larger head bolts get put on later model 6.0's at the factory?

I checked my 2000 2500 today and the first and last bolts on the driver's side are broken. Passenger side is OK so far. I understand there is a TSB on this, but since I don't visit dealers often I don't know how this works. Do TSBs only cover items included under warranty or do they cover out of warranty items if the owner brings it to the dealer's attention?
