Led Hitch Light

Just got a 2007 GMC Sierra Crew Cab SLE2 and love it. I have added several modes and my wife gave me an LED hitch light as a novelty. The cable is only about 9 inches long and has two prongs! Help! How do I make this thing work???

I would say to use a meter and find out the two wires that trailer running lights use and tie into them. The reason that the wire is only 9" is because the trailer harness is right there. Someone else that's done this before should chime in soon.

I did not want the harness to show, nor would it reach so I removed the plug from thr bumper. You will have to seperate it to get it out. If you lift the plug door and look at the left side of the plug. There is a little tang to depress and then you can rotate the door part off the front and rest goes out the back of the bumper.

Then I just put it back together on the back side of the bumper. The problem with this is you now have a hole next to your tag plate. More on that later.

I got the converter that goes from 7 pins to 4 and plugged it in. I put the light into the hitch and ran the wire under the hitch. I Plugged the LED Hitch light into the plug and secured the whole thing to the hitch mount next to the spare tire up under the bed.

Right now I'm looking for some black plastic that matches the bumper so I can cut a piece to fit and will glue it in there lightly.

I found the half of the connector that has the flap door part at GM for about $35.00 and was thinking about installing it in the hole instead, but I can't get myself to part with the money just to fill a hole.

The light looks and works great....I will try to get some pictures here soon for you.

This all sounds too confusing. Do it all correctly! No cutting, glueing, removing bumper parts...ect.... Simply wire it in.

Yea....It is confusing to explain...You would just have to see it for your self. It really was easy to do. It took all of 15 min to complete.

To do that, "Simply wiring it in" as you would say, would we be cutting off connectors? Stripping the the sheath off the wires and such?....Not guna happen on my truck, and it's not that simple to just wire it in....Have you looked up there?

AH Yea....All I really had to do was plug it in, just on the back side of the bumper!

If doing this correctly is as you say, "Simply wire it in", Then, what are you wiring it in to if your not cutting anything? So after you "Just Wire It In" and you want to take it out to install your Hitch to tow something, what are you going to do with this light that is now hard wired in??? You understand this light we are referring to slips into the receiver in the bumper...and needs to be removable....Right?

So, just so I understand this...What your implying here, is that I just half a$$ed this thing in there???? Is that it?.... I take offense to that.....

My God Dude...I respect my new 43,000 dollar truck just a little more than to "Red Neck" it in there......LOL

The last thing I want to do is start cutting or tapping into or by-passing the factory wiring harness. I wanted to do this so that it's not permanent. It can't be...You have to be able to remove it.....

I would (will ) take pictures of it in the morning, but you can't even really see anything. There's nothing to see. It's all tucked up and zip tied by the connector box by the spare tire where all the connectors plug in.

OK...Well, I'm done.

Sorry everyone if I confused you....I guess I'll just go back to building my bass boat out of them 55 gallon drums and that there lawn chair I have out back.

Actually, I meant a picture of the LED light. Sorry for confusion.

On another slant, there is a manufacturer that makes a key lock for the opening of the trailer hitch. Neat little combination lock to place spare key in and such. My question is the same, that is, how does one remove this hitch lock when one actually wants to tow something. The way I read the website of lock is that the lock is in the trailer hitch permanently. Others may correct me.
