Pulling Radio Out Of 2006 Silverado

Question

I have a 2006 silverado I just bought used, I would like to put me Pioneer head unit in it. I was wondering how hard is it to remove the old radio and install a new one. What toold are required and any parts or any necessary harnesses I should know about first???

I have never done this before, but I am very technical so If I have good instructions I am sure I can do it. Thanks.

Appreciate the responds, but I'm hoping to get a response from someone who has done it on a 2006 before. I'm also thinking of trying the same question on some radio installation forums. probably have better luck there?

Pretty simple job. I replaced the factory unit in my 04 Sierra with a Pioneer unit. You have to buy an additional module that will allow you to retain the warning chimes since GM incorporated that into the factory stereo.

Basically you will need a dash fit kit, harness adaptor & the chime module.

I bought thru Crutchfield.

apply park brake, key on,put shifter to low 1,grip left upper corner of I/P trim ,pull towards you ,work your way across to the right ,pull the top out first and remove radio with 7mm socket or equivallant 9/32 socket, remove heater control by unclipping to undo antenna (somtimes antenna are tight to undo)

Not sure about the '06 but I've done my '99 Silverado and some Fords. Usually the instrument bezel is held on by 4-6 clips that you gently pry up the lip of the bezel to release. Probably a few harnesses that unplug to fully release bezel. This should expose the stereo which is held in place by a couple of clips. Pull out and wiring harness should unplug.

Mind you, guess on my part from working on older models.

Best money I've ever spent is on the Chilton's. Great for stuff like this!
