Edge Programmer

Ok I am thinking about getting a edge programmer and wanted to get your .02 on it. I don’t want to get a custom tune due to the fact that I can’t take it in to the dealer with out worrying about it, the Edge I can just unplug and take in. So if you have one I would like to know what you think about it. Thanks Matt

Hope she brings it to me lol...

Get the custom tune, there are several options for avoiding dealer issues. You can get the Nelson Tune and he uses the module exchange program (call him or PM me for details) or you can get an extra set of modules with stock tunes on them. Either way, you will get more for your money and have stock tunes available to you. I had the Edge and sold it and Allen Nelson is tuning my modules as we speak.

Thanks for your help but don't the modules cost $200-300 each and I would still need to get them programmed and that is another $300.

Modules list for $380 for both, but I found mine at dealer cost and got them for $245 for both.

Tunes vary, Nelson's is $375, but Wheatley does them for $275.

Wait4Me is cheaper yet I believe, not sure how much for the NBS trucks though?

Remember, you get what you pay for.

And also, like I said, with Nelson, you don't really NEED extra modules. For one thing, the dealer cannot recognize a tune, but they can overwrite it with a reflash, in which case, Nelson will send you a new tune for free with no downtime (exchange program). If you have a tranny or engine issue where you suspect they might look into it, then you simply call Nelson first and he will send you a set of stock-tuned modules. Overnight if you need them that quick.

I bought the modules just because I wanted to keep my stock ones, but it was really unnecessary to be honest with ya. Depends on how much you wanna spend for the peace of mind of knowing you have stock modules in your hand at all times. One more advantage of having your own 2nd set of modules is you won't have to worry about doing crank relearns more than once.

Yea that sounds good but I just don’t think I can afford the $500-$600 to get it done. It would be nice but just not feasible for me at this time. But thanks a bunch for your input :nono:

Don't you need to do a CASE relearn (Crankshaft position) whenever you swap to a different DME like you had to do on the GMT800 platform??? That means everytime you swap modules you would need to pay someone to do this for you if you don't own a scan tool that can do it (the cheap ones don't do CASE relearn).

I'm personally quite happy with my Edge Programmer.

Same here, looks good on the dash, provides plenty of power for me. (My other older truck is my hot rod truck) So it is not drove very hard and its internet updateable.

I had a bit of an issue when I got mine. My truck had a code that Edge didn't have on file, so I had to submit it (the programmer automatically does it when you plug it into your computer) and it took a couple days for Edge to update the files. Once they did it, I haven't had any problems at all. Very easy to use.

Ive had the Edge for a couple of months now. Sure a custom tune is better over all but then I would need 4 sets of chips for...

A) Stock to enable me to take it to the dealer

B) Towing for those river trips

C) Performance Mode

D) Economy Mode

For what the Edge gives me it was the right thing. Easy Install. Looks Good and its like a toy..fun to mess with.

OK I got it in and installed so far not that much difference but I do notice some difference in the shifting all and all for $300 I am happy
