E-85 Engine Oil?

My wife and I just bought a FF '05 and I was wondering what type(syn or dino)and viscosity(5-30)oil would be the best choice if we burn E85 or a blend of gas and E85? Thanks for your help.

5w30 motor oil. It is up to you if you want to use syn or reg.

To my knowledge there is no reason to use or not use any specific oil for E 85. I agree that you need 5W 30 and personaly I use Amsoil syn but there are other good syns out there as well as dino oils.

To me it is more important that you choose a good quality filter such as Wix, AC Delco etc.

I haven't used anything but Wix in over six years. How often should I change the oil on syn do you think?

Amsoil 25K or once a year with their filter's. Everyone else follow the Oil life monitor. Save money with Amsoil and gas, pick up HP etc..

There are opinions all over the board about drain intervals. Most Syn oils are good for far longer than most of us run them, however they still are in an internal combustion engine and they do get dirty and become contaminated. Personally, I do not like running it any longer than 4K to 5K. Most all filters are designed to run no more than 5K to 6K. There are a few exceptions to this such as Amsoil's extended drain filters. They are designed to run 25K with their oil.

I change mine on time because my Wife's truck does not get driven but 6K to 8k a year. I do a complete change twice a year and change the filter only at 3 month intervals in between the complete change. A litte excessive? Maybe

Where do you find Amsoil? I have yet to locate it locally.

I am fortunate enough to have one of our CARQUEST Stores who sells it. There are dealers in many areas but there is a member of this forum, Black02Silverado who is a dealer and from all indications a great guy.

He has a post or two today under a thread in the Full Size section. I think you can also locate him under supporting vendors.

You can PM him and he can help you.

Even though our store who sells Amsoil oil does not carry the filters, I am considering getting a couple of the EAO filters from Black02 Silverado and trying them. I cannot be 100% sure, but I am pretty sure these filters are designed and build by Wix.
