A buddy of mine is trading in his '98 Dakota for a new Silverado. He wants an Ext. cab Z71 with a 5.3L. What are the bet prices you guys have seen. I thought I saw them in the paper fo ?,000 and under. The dealer he went to says he won't find one under 28K. This time of year a guy sould be able to get one for around ?K I figure. He went to look again today, but I haven't talked to him yet. Anyways, what do ya'll think?

BTW, he is tired of his Dodge and all the problems he has had, so he took my advise to check out a GM.

My youngest brother's 2000 actually stickered for 28,500.

It doesn't have Autotrac and it has a bench seat but for that kind of a sticker price, who cares?

He actually negotiated a final price of ?,350 which is good and your buddy can find a comparable deal if he skips a couple of options and looks hard enough.

saw a nice '00 2500 (non-HD) with the 6.0L and 3rd door and some other options for 25k (not a Z71 but still). same lot we got the 97 from. if you want to come to reno and talk to ALI i get a 100 dollars (if you buy something i think)

I doubt you'll find one for that price...  My '00 excab LS with leather is sitting on the lot for and only 4K miles.  That tells me a "left over '01" would be more than that!!!

Go to

www.98over.com

Everything they sell is 98 over invoice.  Doesn't matter if it's a on-lot vehicle or a special order.  You're even able to do it all over the internet!  Trade in your old vhicle, too!

Might be worth looking at.

BTW, it's where I bought my truck.  I don't live too far from them.  Had a good experience with them.

The cheapest z71 silverado i have seen around here in new york is about ?,500 i have looked everywere to the most expensive was over ?,000. If he finds a new z71 for ?,000 let me know cause i will buy one. Your lucky to find a regular 4x4 around here for ?,000 to ?,000. these prices were for a extended cab z71 the regular cab silevrado's i have no clue how much they are.

First in order to get the Z71 package you have to at least get the LS package and a 4.8. My truck stickered at ?,000 and it is a reg cab stepside with a 4.8 and Buckets. No auto track. The buckets and stepside together were ?,700, if you minus that from the price you still come up ?,300. I hope this gives some insight on the price.

If there are any unbelievers on the sticker or price I quoted,I can get the window sticker and purchasing paperwork.

It can be done, you just have to work on them and finding a truck that's been on the lot for several months doesn't hurt either.

BTW,the person in question is registered on the board under the screen name of Z71 00,he just doesn't spend much time on the internet.

I have the new Truck Trader for CO & WY and there are a couple of 2000's listed under ?K, but no 01's listed yet.  As far as what a salesman will tell you, positive or negative, remember it's more profitable for them to be full of BS, than full of the truth!

Check out the car price sites... I use cars.com the most... they have some 2002 prices up now. I haven't looked for Z71's  so I don't know about those. When i ordered my new truck the dealer gave it to me for the 2001 invoice price because he didn't have 2002 prices yet. If I had found one there I liked that had been in stock (or located) since January he would have passed along a savings of ? that GM was offering to dealers... that would have been under invoice. I checked out 2002 prices on cars.com and it would only have been ? more anyway. it seems the skid plates are now included in the snow plow prep package and the package price didn't go up. on HD's 2002 prices are only a little over ? more anyway so unless you find your dream truck or if they are still offering the ? on 2001's you may as well order... and if you look around you should find a dealer that will give you invoice price... altough they usually do add in about ? for regional advertizing...

    • Did you ever get this worked out? Mike is doing the two start thing now too. This is after a new camera back in December.
    • I’m doing an experiment on a vehicle I don’t have much money in. I’m going by the premise that after they last 100K miles they were no mechanical problems with assembly. Or defects with the parts. With oil changes by the minder for the first 127K miles when I acquired it. I quickly went through low mileage oil changes then settled on 5k oil changes with close to 170K miles on the vehicle currently. I did have the option to turn off the cylinder deactivation. I didn’t on this vehicle because in ECONOMY mode at least half the time. It should be a no brainer frequent oil changes are the key. The manufacturer gets away with the long oil changes with its severe service  maintenance. Just ask them what is normal.
    • Even set to "recirculated", the air pushes out and is hot. I have noticed that sometime it doesn't want to switch between recirculated/vented air. Say it is set to Circulated Air and I want to switch to Vented, when I click the Vented button, it just quickly lights up/clicks and immediatly switches back to Circulated. It's done this a few times now. So maybe it is an actuator getting stuck? But then, that doesn't explain the hot air when everything is off does it?
    • I wonder what the price is out at the coast, Big Sur or other out of the way locations as I bet they are charging quite a premium over the in land pumps.
    • Were you looking at the HD trucks on the GM website or the half tons as that makes all the difference. As far as I know there are only two options for the HD trucks and that is the standard 2 speed transfer case or the 2 speed transfer case that has the added 4 high auto feature and they put that transfer case by default into the LTZ and High Country although its optional in the LT and not sure if its available in the work trucks.    The half tons, that is where its been a total mess in my estimation for a few years now with most trucks below the top trim having the single speed transfer case as standard but with the option of having the two speed such as one would get by choosing the Z71 package, however then not being able to get the two speed transfer case with the towing package unless it was a higher trim truck AND had the 6.2 gas so one could combine the towing package gearing diffs with the two speed transfer case. Having said that if its a trail boss package then it gets the two speed transfer case but not necessarily able to get the tow package as it would depend on trim level and engine chosen. Believe me, people have bought the GM half tons assuming "of course it will have a two speed transfer case" only to find out after when they really pay attention to what they now own .... crap, there is NO low range !.    I don't believe Ford or Ram have gone that way yet with their half tons but like I say its been a few years now that GM has done this with the half tons.
