Question On Driver 1/2 Memory Positions

I did a couple searches on BCM and read through some threads but didn't see the answer to my question. My appologies if this is a duplicate thread.

 

I have a 2003 Yukon SLT 2WD.

 

I can set my seat position, etc. and store it in memory 1 or 2 and everything is fine and dandy. Then out of the blue the settings get all messed up. Sometimes it takes a couple days and sometimes a couple weeks but it never seems to remember them long term. The battery has been replaced. Someone told us it was probably a bad BCM. That sounded expensive to replace and we wanted something bigger anyway so we recently purchased a 2003 Yukon XL Denali AWD, and guess what? It does the same thing!

 

Is this a common thing for GMC's in general or just 2003 models or do we just have bad luck?

Both my mom's '03 Escalade and my dad's '05 Dually have these memory seats, and both seem to have a mid of their own. It sounds just like your problem, eventually they just get messed up and don't remember where they are supposed to be. Sorry I am not any help, but it seems to be a problem with the memory seats, you are not alone.

There is a TSB on this. The fix is a reprograming of the body computer. It fixed mine. This was done in mid 2004

Should a customer indicate that the preset position on their memory power seat gradually changes over time, the condition cannot currently be corrected. Do not replace the memory seat module at this time. This condition is due to a coding deficiency in the software of the seat module. The software is currently being revised and an updated module will be provided for service. You will be notified of the new part number when it is available.

This is excellent news. I'm not familiar with these notifications. Will any dealership perform this service free of charge regardless of miles or if it's still under warranty?
