Changing The Fuel Pump On My '02 Yukon

I have a '02 GMC Yukon with a bad fuel pump and was wondering how difficult it is to change it out. Should I leave it up to a mechanic or is it something I could do on my own with a little guidance from people on here?

Never changed one personally but dropping the tank is the toughest part. Next to that, you cannot keep everything too clean. You have to make sure your work area is clean with no grit, dirt or dust that can get into the new pump module. Make sure you change the pump strainer at the same time.

One other piece of advice. Your truck came with a Delphi unit as OE. I would highly recommend you go back with an OE unit. We (CARQUEST) moved to OE based pumps about a year ago and it was the best move we ever made. Our pumps are either Delphi, Bosch or Airtex depending on the OE application. It doesn't matter where you buy it, just make sure it is not an "OE copy".

I went with Airtex not a cheap off brand. While I had the tank down I went ahead and put some undercoating on and also changed the rubber fuel lines.
