Z71 Shocks

I want to replace the red shocks on the rear of my 04 GMC 1500 z71. With the 2" lift blocks that the z71's have, would I need a stock shock or a shock for a 2" rear lift ? Thanks for your help.

If you haven't done any aftermarket lifting, get the standard shock listed for the truck. If the 2 inches were added by you (or somebody else) get the lift application. Shocks need to operate within their designed "zone" so that they don't top out or bottom out at extreme suspension travel.

The 2" block is standard on all GMT-800 series 4wd trucks. The 4wd rear suspension is the same as the 2wd, just with the 2" block. That's what gives the rear the extra hight over the 2wd trucks. Order stock length shocks for a z71 or 4x4 and you'll be fine, don't get longer shocks.

ps. those should be bilstein shocks (good), keep them.

I'm not sure what year they stopped putting Bilsteins on the Z71s but I know my 99 has the red tenneco shocks,as do any after that.
