jefferias Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 hi everyone! first of all the motor- came from a 89 2500 4x4. apparently was a crate motor with around 50000 miles. completely re-manned the heads cause i work in a head shop. decked em 5 thou and also did a minor portn'polish. looked at cylinder walls and there was still cross-hatching in every cylinder. also looked at crank and rods and seemed to be legit so i left the block intact. switched from mechanical fuel pump to electric holley which is 4psi and 7psi shutoff built in. new carb same model as what has been on the truck the whole time(autolite quadrajet). Distributor is a msd streetfire, eddie performer intake, stock exhaust manifolds, new plug wires, as well as ac delco plugs gapped at 40thou. obviously outfitted the motor from tbi and serpentine belt to carb and v-belt. measured manifold vacuum reading is at 23 mercury inches and steady. initial timing at 8btdc. heres the thing - i had distr. vacuum hose from carb and timing wasnt advanceing when plugged in. so i cap off carb port and hooked up to manifold vacuum, and the timing went up alot as well as idle, runs alot smoother and more power outta the hole for sure. started truck this morning and it started up fine and smooth but fast idle for choke not come on now since i rerouted vacuum advance line and its -30 celcius so no heat forever cause of choke just wondering why itd do that? also how much vacumn do i want to let my adjustable advance to let in, i have a chart for it but no idea what should be.i think im at around 7.6 h/g but just wnat some hints or tips on optimzing the performance and effiency of the motor. and comments or suggestions are much appreciated
