Defective Stepper Motor?

Gentlemen (and ladies),

I'm looking for some support...I've recently completed the 4HI headlamp mod (as per the thread on another board, via the BCM) and installed a new head unit in my truck (using the switched to constant power wire setup)...

At first, my truck was reading 13 to 14 volts on the voltmeter on my gauge cluster...then one day it jumped to 17...it went back to normal for a few days, and now, the needle is pegged...I've attached photos to show what I mean...

When I turn the ignition to "run", I hear sounds like an electric motor is "leveling a mechanical meter"...like the old analog gas pumps did before you started pumping...

Any Idea's?

I would disable the mod you did, and see if the problem corrects itself. My guess is, that's what has caused this issue, but maybe not. Damage to either the gage, the BCM, or the cluster may have taken place. Good luck.

put a volt meter on the battery while running, and see what you have. should be about 14.5 volts. if yes then get your cluster replaced. as for the 4high mod, you could of used a $1.00 diode from radio shack, and jumped the high/low relays at pins 85 facing the diode flow ( stripe side ) to the high beam side. if battery doesnt check out then you f**ked something else up..03+ you donot need to do the BCM mod

good luck

:)
