Shim (leaf) Bolts

Just put 2'' shackles on my extended cab and I've got that dreaded 60+mph vibration!! Yes, I need 2 degree shims and fast! Ive found the shims locally, but no bolts! I've read that on some trucks the stock leaf spring bolts were long enough to add shims? Anyone know for sure?

do the shims bolt in with the centerpin bolt or are they slotted like a fork?

They're the solid ones that the centerpin goes through.

Hmm, well then look at your stock centerpin and see if theres enough threads stickinng past the nut...if not your gonna need new centerpins. You should be able to get them at the dealer or parts store. They come extra long and you have to cut off the excess after your finished.

 

question....did you wait until the truck was on the ground before tightening the shackle bolts?...even then they shouldnt be too tight.

Good point. The truck should be on the ground before you tighten the shackles. Otherwise there will be preload on the bushings... that might just cause the vibration. Personally I haven't ever had to shim a truck with drop shackles. Never had one cause any vibrations.

Hmmmm.......sure didnt, I tightened them in the air!! Im gonna try that first before I buy the shims! Might put them in anyway, just to get the pinion angle back to normal, may prevent U-joint failure in the long run! Ill be back there anyway!! Thanks everyone!
