Planning on doing a few things this weekend to clean up some things. Figured I should come to the guys who know best! First off, I want to clean my mass air sensor and throttle body while I'm installing my new GMPP intake and I also have a spark plug question.

1) Should I remove the TB to clean it, or just spray some cleaner in it? What should I do with the butterfly while cleaning it? Only other vehicle I have done this on is a Tacoma and i could just pull the cable back and forth to open and close it. I shouldn't go too heavy with the cleaner either correct? Will be using the CRC cleaner as well.

2) MAS will be cleaned while I've got everything taken apart installing the intake. Seems that is pretty straight forward lightly spraying it off with MAS cleaner by CRC.

3) Lastly, I picked up some NGK Iridium IX plugs that I'm planning on putting in, but they're gapped at .056". Is that safe to run or will that cause harm to my motor? They were older when they were gapped at .06", but if I'm not mistaken, they're supposed to be at .04" now. NGK told me they would be fine and I should actually get better mileage with the larger gap.

I've been roaming around for quite some time on this and seen all kinds of mixed inputs on all of these things, so I want something definite before I tear into everything on Saturday.

Dave, you are doing the right thing cleaning the TB and MAF. Just open the butterfly with your finger and spary some TB cleaner around the edges. Use a good lint free rag to clean out the go around the butterfly and on the back side of the butterfly.

As far as the plugs go. If you have a set of NGK's that are a few months old, they could very well be gapped at .060. The 7164 Laser IX along with NGKs other apps once used .060 but not long ago they went the same route as some other plug mfgs and began presetting them at .044. I have the 7862 laser plats, which were the OE plugs, in mine gapped at .060 and it runs great and is smooth as warm butter at idle. You could take them back to where you bought them and they may swap them out for some that would be gapped at .044.

Yeah I don't have the receipt anymore so they wouldn't do that for me since they said I had the wrong part number completely. NGK has a new part # for those plugs now rather than the 7164.
