Questions About Pcm

Can anyone give me a part number for the computer that we send out to get flashed? Is this an ECM or PCM??? I have family that works at delphi so I'm trying to get the part numbers so I dont have to buy one from nelson......Also what is the location of it in the truck? thanks guys

Here are the part numbers for my truck, which is a 6.0. I THINK they are the same as the 5.3, but do not know for sure.

ECM #12597121

TCM #24234503

PCM = Powertrain Control Module and it is an old acronym from when the Engine and Tranny module were combined. They are now seperate modules and therefore use the ECM (Engine Control Module) and TCM (Trans Control Module) names. But "PCM" is kinda like "Kleen-Ex", it is such a common term, it still lives on. But today PCM and ECM is synonymous.

Do the ECM and TCM from gmpartsdirect come with a stock program, or do they have to have a program flashed to them before they are used?

It'll have to be flashed for your vehicle.

so youre saying I have to send nelson my ecm and the tcm to get flashed?? Where exactly are these modules located? Also....Jeff, I think your truck would look sweeter if you took off the running boards, what do u think??? I have been going back and forth with myself if I want a set or not....

No way!!! I love these 6" oval step bars. I actually use them (as do my wife and kids), plus they protect the lower doors/rockers from road debris very nicely. They stay!!! Now, a few of the other chrome accessories I could be talked out of, such as the chrome mirror covers and chrome bug shield. Prety sure I am "stuck" (pun intended) with the mirror covers though.

I was thinkin bout gettin the 3 inch bars but I dunno.....I'm trying to get bostons denali mirrors, that would be cool....still trying to find the part numbers for ecm and tcm..not sure if they are the same as 6.0

Send your VIN to www.gmpartsdirect.com customer service and they'll respond with the correct part numbers. I would almost bet it's the same as the 6.0L though...
