Thats Enough To Piss A Guy Off

Went to the local GMC dealership earlier this week to see about ordering a GM bug deflector for my 08 GMC pickup. I wanted a color matched deflector and their parts computer listed one as being "Gray" and that was all the description that was given. I specifically asked if it had any more of a name then "Gray" and was told no. He showed me the picture and it looked like Steel Gray in the picture, so I decided to order it.

Parts department called today and said my stuff was in, so I went to pick up the bug deflector. Open the box up and sure enough, it certainly isn't gray. I guess "Gray" means Stealth Gray Metallic. And to top it off, they refused to take the part back since it was an ordered part. Not exactly a good way to make me want to spend more money ordering parts from them.

On a side note, if anyone here would like to buy a GM bugdeflector for a 07-08 GMC Sierra in Stealth Gray Metallic I have one new in the box for sale...

If you have the color grey like I do you can't get an GM accessories in that color. My GM accessories guy told me that. So if I were you I would bring that deflector back and tell them to shove it because they should no better.

They should have asked for your VIN and got your paint code,Then they would have seen that your Gray was not available.

The only Gray thats available is color code 46U-Stealth Gray Met.

I know if we ordered it here, and one of my guys didn't ask you for your VIN or paint code, and it wasn't the correct color,I would take it back with no problems.

I would say that its more the parts guys fault than anything,Again...He should have ask for your VIN.

And thats why I can't stress this enough...ANYTIME you go to order parts have your VIN handy, anymore we need it to order just about anything!!

Did you buy it on a credit card? I'd go in and speak directly with the parts manager first and see why they won't take it back, then I'd just file for a chargeback if he said no or came up with a BS story. Tell them they have two options. Refund you now on their terms, or you will forcefully get a refund via your credit card company.

For goodness's sake. I can't believe the dealer won't take it back. What do they think? They can't sell it to somebody else? I would think they could sell it to another purchaser of a truck soon enuf.

Go over the parts guy's head. Maybe he's just toeing the party line and trying not to get into trouble. Maybe he has a tyrannical boss (Hubbycap, can you guess what the boss's name is? Hint: three letters, rhymes with "x"). At any rate the guy is probably just trying to follow policy and I would try to build a road around him.

If this was me I would get the general manager involved. The "squeaky wheel gets the grease" and I can guarantee you that with a recession looming and GM stock dropping enough noise would get them to do right by you.

Talk to the parts manager, and tell him this part does not work on your truck. Ask him to exchange it or refund your cash. Be courteous, and see how he responds. If he still does not help you, ask to talk to the owner of the dealership. If he flat out refuses, politely tell him that you will be contacting your credit card company (if you used a CC) and that you will be giving GM a call. I'm sure that you can get it resolved at the dealer. Good Luck.

I would order the right part, then when it comes back, put the wrong bug deflector in the new bug deflector box and tell them they sent you the wrong one, and that your just going to buy one from pepboys.
