Ignition Problem

I have a 2002 GMC 2500HD 6.0 with an automatic trans. When you put the key in the ignition it will not turn, sometimes you have to try to turn it for 5-10 minutes. I only have one key and it is pretty wore down. Could this be my problem or is it something else with the ignition. If this is the case can the dealer cut a key using your VIN number?

yes for the key,try a new key and some superlube in the cylinder ,if the same ,a tumbler/cyl kit would be needed

I believe they can, if you present a photo ID and proof of ownership in person.
