Why Not A 3" Body Lift

Have heard some people say not to get a body lift. Why is that. Doesn't it ride better with a Body Lift compared to Suspension? Factory ride is maintained? Anything else?

your ride will be exactly the same as before the body lift/ not really a bad thing just dont go any higher than 2" especially if you plan on having the truck a long time.

 

i have a 3" on my truck and i have the blots as tight as a impact can get them and the body/box will sway around corners about a 1/2" around corners.

 

a few people i know around here are doing 3" body lifts and there putting 2 hockey pucks in there for a 5 inch body lift....(Think thats just stupid).

i just put new rancho rsx shocks on the truck and just want it leveled and raise alittle but thanks for input anyone else got anything to add thanks guys

I personally dont like a body lift becasue a chevy already shows too much frame. The are a helluva lot cheaper though.

The body lift won't level it, it will raise the body 3" but you will still have the rake unless you level the front suspension. Use the search feature, you can get torsion bar keys, or simply crank the stock ones to level it out, you won't spend a ton of cash doing it. Search body lifts as well, they are more work than you think. The biggest reason people are against them is the fact only the body is lifted, you gain no real clearance as the chassis is still in the same place.

Tires are the only true thing to give more ground clearance. A suspension lift will let you but bigger tires on than a b/l though. You can run 33's on a stock 4x4. I've seen some go as high as 35's with a b/l and a few other minor tweeks, but wouldn't do it myself. I used to have 285/75/16's and now I'm running 305/70/16, which are both equal 33's. Both have been on 16x8 American Racing wheels, but I can't remember the backspacing. I also had the 285's on the factory 16x7 wheels for a while. My b/l is a Performance Accessories 3 inch b/l which works perfect for me. I cost me around $215 from JC Whitney in 2002 and myself, my brother and a couple buddies put it on in a day with common hand tools. I bought the gap guards (about $55) to put in the fender wells to hide some of the gaps, and I have step rails (which I modified the brackets so they would raise up a couple inches too) which hides most of the exposed frame. The ride is exactly like before, because nothing with the suspension has changed. In theory, I have a higher center of gravity, so it should tip over easier, but I have not noticed a difference in the 6 years it's been on. Then again, I don't drive it like a race car. Most everyone says a suspention lift rides better than stock, which I think is true as well.

 

Basicly it came down to money for me.

 

$270 and some pizza and beer vs. $1400-1600 for a kit, plus installation since I don't have all the proper tools for that, plus some kits require drive shafts, wheels with a certain backspacing, etc.

A body lit will just allow you wheel clearance, and expose your brake lines to anyone who hates you & considers snipping them

I loved my body lift. No major modifications to the truck, that couldn't be undone. Did it myself, and it was way cheaper. Got the higher off the ground, away from dangers on the ground. Center of gravity is still lower than a suspension lift of equal size, because the heaviest items don't go higher (Engine, transmission, frame...) I think the body lift has the least negative impact on the truck. I also never had any sway or abnormal flex on mine. Perhaps the GMT-800 frame was stiff enough to prevent this.

my next truck will have a body lift, theres really nothing wrong with it, but i would suggest a 2" over a 3". i dont really like having a 3" on my truck and watching the body and box move around corners and after time that cant be good for the mounts.
