07-08 Nbs Door Handle Mod - Key Delete Removal

I'm pretty much going to remove the current drivers side handle, because someone tried to break into it by poping the key cylinder, so now my cylinder is screwed up and my handle is dented, wont seat right. Well i can easily replace the hanlde with the same one, but i can be in this situation again. ( NOTE: This has happened to all three of my previous GM trucks, i guess it's an easy way to get in, i'm tired of it ). So i figured if i place a passenger door hanlde, losing the ability to use the key to unlock, this might help lower my chances of this issue happening again. But removing this also brings other risks, so far i'm aware of the following.

 

I have to make sure my battery doesn't die, other wise no power locks, no entry

If i lock my keys in, i can use the spare remote or have onstar unlock me.

the only thing i have hooked up to the battery are my HID's,i'm not running any audio system and don't plan to.

 

My concers, if i remove it and place the passenger handle, will i damage anything with the mechanics of unlocking and locking the door, since i'm removing the key cylinder, will the door work properly, i'm assuming it should since that is what it does on the passenger's side already

 

any other fyi's before i do this, tips, anyone tried this already????????

I can't really help on your questions but if I was doing this mod I'd put the connection for jump starting somewhere accessible on the front of the truck...I'm speaking of the connection that many police cars have on the front so they don't have to open the hood or access the battery directly to jump another vehicle. Obviously you would need to keep the other half of the cable setup accessible outside the truck like in a tool box. But this would help alot if the battery dies and you need to get in the truck.

 

On my truck I was going to leave the lock cylinder and get some "jimmyjammers".

Pretty interesting, didn't know that was out, but i already bought the painted hanldes. don't feel like throwing more money on it. Besides, it still keeps the key hole, if a thief see's it, he/she will still give it a try, and that try could damage something else, either scratching the paint, bending, denting, etc.

 

No keyhole, higher possibility thief will just move to the next one.

that's a good idea, maybe towards the bed with a bed cover, that would be later down the road though. as the battery gets older and older.

 

how is the life on those gel batteries ( Optima's ) ?? ? ?

I don't think you can eleimnate the hole either way, I looked at them both on my truck and they are different. Dirvers vs. passnger side, front and rear. All different.

Otherwise, ill have to replace the handle and get that jimmi jammer

Why not shave the entire handle like the truck in your sig?

just and update. i did the mod. took the rear handle from a tahoe, replaced the assembly from my drivers side minus the key cylinder and it worked.
