2500hd Shock Question

Hi Guys,

I have a 2002 2500HD with a 6inch superlift.

The truck was lifted by the previous owner.

I am pretty sure it needs new shocks. Whenever I go over a bump, I hear rattling.

I want to replace the shocks, but I am not sure if they are the original standard size shocks or if they or custom shocks since it it lifted.

I don't know anything about lifting a truck, so I don't know if the original shocks were replaced to fit the 6 inch lift.

If I need after market shocks for the 6 inch lift; what size do I need and any recommendations on brand?

Thanks.

First stop is to check all your shock mounting bolts to make sure they are tight. I have had some work loose and make things sound like a worn/broken shock.

Second - they are going to be longer than stock - best bet is to check mfr website for the lift kit application. If you don't want to use theirs - you should be able to cross reference the recommended shocks to another brand.

Personally, I run a ProComp 6" lift, and use the MX-6 adjustables from them. Been pleased so far - 3.5 years, 52000 miles (alot of it towing), and some off-road. Still going strong. Got the lift and shocks at 4 Wheel Parts, but here's mfr website: http://www.explorerprocomp.com/

i'm in the same boat, i'll have to get some new ones to.

I have the same setup as you, but I have the 37 in nitto mud grapplers and they rub the sway bar. It sucks.

Did you have to do anything to get the 35 in tires to fit properly?

just minor fender trimming. I can tell it was done by the prevoius owner because he didn't smooth wear he cut. They don't rub or anything even when off roading. I may go up to 37's this winter ( X-mas present to myself) How wide are your tires? Mine are 14.50. You could look at a better offset on the rim or a wheel adapter to help out. It all depends on how far you want the tires to stick out. Maybe turn the torsion bars. Not sure what the offset of my rims are but i'm going to get a hold of Ions Wheels and ask. I need a two new center caps for the rims. They went missing in action a while back.
