Bigger Tires?

Need some input about switching from 265/70/17 to 285/70/17 on my '04 Tahoe. I have heard these might rub a little. Does anyone know the ride height gains?

i had the same size in the 16" rim size. There was only a very slight rubbing when fully turned and in reverse. It corrected itself in about a month. I had a 2 wheel drive 2001 Tahoe, so your Z71 might have a little more clearance to begin with.

And as a correction to Riggs earlier, you will have a 1" taller tire in all, but it will only lift the truck up 0.5"

You will be going from a 31.6" tire to a 32.7", but that difference is divided between the top and bottom, so only 0.5" gain.

I am picking up some LTZ 20" wheels & tires (dealer takeoffs) for my 2006 chevy 1/2 ton 2WD crewcab. I shouldn't have any rubbing issues right? If I recall the old tires are 245/70-17 and the new ones are 275/55-20. Bout a 1.4" diff in diameter if my calculations are correct.

turn your wheels so that the tire is as close to the rear (fender) as you can get it. measure the distance, IMO you need at least 1.5" of clearence. Turn the wheel again and check the clearence toward the front (bumper) again IMO you need at least 1.5"

If they both check out, I think you'll be fine on that side.

repeat for the other side.

each truck is different, t-bar positions and sag might even lead to differences from the driver side to the passanger side.

It also depends on the tire. some 285's are just over 32" and some are nearly 33"

also, they vary if you're going to a soft shoulder tire (street tire) or one with a square lug (alterain). a soft shoulder is generally going to have a slightly narrower section width compared to a square lug.

I got an estimate for my total on tires....658.00$ I bought 285/70/17 Firestone Destination A/T. They are 159.00$ per tire normally. Luckily I have a relative that owns a Goodyear store, Ha. He ironically said never to buy the wranglers because they are immpossible to balance. Just lookin' out for you guys.
