Nbs Tailgate Gap

My 2008 Sierra has a WICKED gap on the driver side of the tailgate. It is not the width of the panel gap when the gate is closed - rather, it is the fact that it is not closing tight enough and there is nearly a 1/2" gap between the rear panel and the tailgate when closed. It has been a couple weeks since I needed to pop the tailgate and Truxedo to get in the back for something - and every time I do it pisses me off.

When I first noticed it (when I installed my Truxedo cover) I thought it would be easy to fix by simply moving the latch mechanism on the tailgate to pull it tighter when latched. No go - there is no adjustment in the mechanism when you loosen the bolts. It seems that the only alternative is to see if the latching bolt mounted to the body of the bed can be moved inward - but it sure does not look like that is an alternative.

Anyone else have this - or better yet figured out how to adjust it?? I am a month + out from my next dealer visit (out of town dealer) and would like to see if I can fix it myself.

Yes I have the same thing my fix was to buy a seal kit for the tailgate. Now no more ugly gap and not a drop of water or any dust gets in the bed. Seal kit was $22. I hated the look of the gap too, I thought the bed sides were spread when I first got it.

Thanks for the info Steve. Actually, I have the seal kit too. Installed it with the Bedrug and Truxedo LoPro and still keeping it dry in the back (even with the midwest monsoon season we are having this spring!) Glad yours is working too!

My problem is not the "east/west" gap (the spread between the bed side and the tailgate. My problem is the "north/south" gap (the spread between the END of the bed rail and the surface of the tailgate when it is closed). It almost looks like the tailgate is not fully shut - when it is. It sticks out around 1/2". I was hoping someone else may have seen this and figured out how to fix it. As per my original post - the way it would make sense to me to fix it does not work.

Anyone......Bueller.....Bueller...Bueller..... (Sorry guys I know that this is a relatively lame problem compared to "lint". :D I have that issue too.....)

Mine is acutally hard to close, and doesn't SOUND like it's seating right... I have slammed it twice on more than one occasion thinking "i didn't get it" the first time.

Was going to have the dealer check it out... IS THERE AND ADJUSTMENT there?

Not a big "body work" guy.....
