6.0 In K1500?

Looking into trading in the 04 DMax and getting into a 1/2ton z71 with a 6.0 gas in it. Anyone have one of these and got an idea on fuel milage. I hate to loose the shear power of my max, but I don't pull much anymore. It is alot more truck then I need and the daily commute is racking up the miles on her.

I have heard good things about the 5.3 with flex fuel or fuel management, but don'tknow about the 6.0.

thanks,

My 5.3 doesn't seem to lack any power, always had plenty of grunt whenever I needed it. That said, I definitely would look at a VortecMax, if I could've afforded the price difference I would've definitely picked one of those up. The difference in fuel mileage is at most 2-3 mpg.

I went from an HD with a pumped 8.1 to this, and sold my big camper. I am very pleased with the 5.3. There are many here with the 6.0 that will answer your question. Good luck with your decision.

More like 1-2 MPG at most.

And remember, for the extra $909 (Invoice option price for L76 on 2007's) You get a better engine (more power, deep skirt block, 6 bolt mains, VVT), 4L70E Tranny, ext engine cooling, ext tranny cooling, HD 9.5" rear end, 4 wheel disc brakes (assuming you also get Stabilitrak).

Cheaper than the Nav option!!! No brainer IMO.

Thanks for the quick info guys. I figure to trade in one of our vehicles in the next couple of months. Since I am trying to buy a new boat I thought I would get the wife a new car, but it cost me 75 cents more a gallon to fill up for NO reason. Having this great big truck is nice, but Not needed anymore.

I have the 6.0, pulls my 6000lb boat with no problems. Average about 18-19 mpg on the highway in the Summer, about 13-14 in the city. Get about 12 mpg towing. Not bad considering the boat gets about 2 mpg!

I avg. about 13.5mpg. If I can manage to keep my foot out of it I can avg. 16.5. Not bad IMO.

btw: that's mostly city driving.

Ranger 354 I did the same thing you are going to do, I had a 04 D-Max longbed extend cab 4x4 and got rid of it also due to not having a use for it anymore, I no longer tow heavy (sold the boat) and couldnt justify keeping it. Now at 4.19 a gallon just to drive around and not work the truck, screw that.

I get 14.5 mpg with the 6.0. I got around 15 with my 2003 5.3.

For me it wasn't really the extra power you get from the 6.0, it was the stuff that VMax2007 said. You're getting quite an upgrade for a thousand dollar option, and I don't think your mileage is going to suffer terribly. You can't go wrong with either engine though.

Go for the 6 litre. Like everyone else I get 15 or so city and 18-20 on trips. I pull a 33 foot camper and get about 9mpg lugging that.

You may pull again someday and you'll have it if you need it.

Thanks again everyone for answering my questions. I have found a truck in North Texas and will talk with a dealer when I get back from vacation. These are some much needed days off. I am an avid outdoorsman and have only been able to fish twice in 4 months. Compared to a normal 25 trips in that same time span. And I haven't had time to hunt for trucks either.

When I put the math to it I can save a little over $100 a month just in fuel cost. Since both truck will average about the same milage.
