AllBlkdOut07 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I got my new AEM intake with oiless, dry flow AEM dark grey cone filter, and immediately tried to paint it a blood red, but it didn't come out as expected. I then had it bead blasted and powdercoated in a candy red and gloss clear powdercoat. Multiple coats of candy red were applied to get the color as dark as possible since I was going for a real blood red color. The finished product looks cool, but I had an idea about giving the intake a really custom look to somehow make it look like real blood, maybe some subtle veins, arteries..etc. I was thinking of some black and/or real dark red airbrushing over the powdercoat to have the red candy show through as a blood texture. Not sure exactly what it would look like, but I have an idea, just figured it would have more of a 3D look and really stand out, and keep in with the evil theme of my truck. I do NOT want skulls, or anything devil looking, just something more graphical. Just haven't seen anything airbrushed of what I am talking about, everyone does real flames..etc which I don't want. If it came out good, I might have other small accented pieces under the hood done to match. If anyone has ideas, knows of anyone who is really talented with an airbrush and thinks they know how to make this thing look like it's really covered in blood I'd like to hear about it. Here's what the intake looks like right now.
pennzoil29 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Cool, but did you know that blood is black while it is circulating in your body. Oxygen in the air is what turns it red. I'm just being a wise ass, but it is true.

Rocco715 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I'd go and look at some motorcycle shops if there are any close in your area. There are quite a few places here in Detroit that do alot of custom airbrush work to helmets, welding masks, gas tanks.
hubbycap Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Just in case you're asked in Trivial Pursuit: Oxygen-enriched arterial blood after passing through the lungs, is bright red in the artery. Venous blood is dark. Medical personnel usually pull venous blood from the veins depleted of oxygen on the way back to the lungs, because arteries close to the skin surface are smaller than veins. Veins are easier to "stick" because of the larger size (low pressure), and so they hemorrhage and bruise less than arteries when blood is drawn.

I'm talking about blood you would see hanging in a bag to be used intravenously in a hospital, it's like a purplereddishblack.
AllBlkdOut07 Posted May 1, 2008 Author Posted May 1, 2008 WHAT? You mean you aren't gonna paint it black? Ha..no..black intake tube would be kinda boring. I'm going for some WOW factor here. I have a talented airbrush artist from KY who is going to be working on this for me..he's going to sketch up some ideas for me. I sent him these as reference that found and altered in photoshop
pennzoil29 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 I'm just refering to a time that I had a 3" spike shot into my palm, sob did that hurt. Anyhow, when I pulled it out, my blood was a blue, almost black until it started to turn red.

I still have the remnance of the hole on my palm. It went in at an angle, and I think it stopped when it hit my wrist bone. There was only about 1/2" sticking out of my hand. I pulled it out with a pair of vice grips.
pennzoil29 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Damn, I'm going to get accused of being a thread thief.

Zembonez Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Damn, I'm going to get accused of being a thread thief. I checked the rules on this... and although there is no specific mention of it, I say anybody with the balls to pull a 3 inch spike out of his own hand with vice grips can hijack any thread he wants!

Hell, Jim, that is all the hospital would've done, plus charge me a couple hundred bucks. Not much they can do for puncture wounds. Sorry again AllBlkdOut07
