Cai + Throttle Body Spacer = ?

Sup fellas. Pretty close to buying my CAI. I'm thinking ima go with the K&N or the GMPP I'm not to sure yet. However, if available for a gmt900 truck would a throttle body spacer be worth the extra cash? (100$) I understand that the TBS spins the air coming in to the engine thus allowing the gas to explode more efficiently. ( more oxygen = bigger boom) if this is true, would the gains from the CAI be more noticeable? or is this TBS along with the CAI a waste of time and money?

thanks for the help.

Throttle body spacer will do absolutely NOTHING for your truck other than add a few ounces of weight.

Danm wingnut, crush his dreams why dont you. lol. But ya TB nothing no performance gain what so ever.

are these statements based on experience or hearsay? just seems like it will allow the CAI to preform better.

let me remind you this is all new to me..

Search the forums for throttle body spacer...You'll get TONS of responses.

Bottom line...They were okay on the older TBI trucks, but not so much on the new engines.

Don't waste your money on the throttle body spacer and that's from experience. You can't tell any difference with or without it. Even on the dyno they don't make any difference on the vehicles I've seen them tested. CAI are even questionable on some vehicles, it depends on how good the factory intake system is. I do run a CAI and it's a Volant with the snorkel so I'm pulling air from inside the fender, factory location, and from under the front valance. My ECM is tuned for this and it's been tested on a dyno. Real world it looks nice under the hood and makes you think your getting more air but in everyday driving I don't feel they make but a very nominal difference if that. With that said, there may be some vehicles out there with a more restrictive intake and I'm sure there are. Mine is on a 2500 Suburban with a 8.1 Liter which breathes well from the factory. The biggest changes for the money I've seen in real world for MY vehicles are Long tube headers and a Tuned ECM.

Most folks are after fuel economy now and a better throttle response. Anything that makes real horsepower is going to use more fuel. Our battle is a balance between emissions and fuel economy. With fuel approaching $4.00 per gallon, who knows what's in stake for us all.

Like everyone else has said, don't wast the money on the TBS... Also like stated, the CAI might not even make a huge difference, depends on what mods have been done.

If you get a CAI I suggest the SLP piece as its an inclosed style like the GMPP unit and to me has made a little bit better throttle response but really does better from about 2500RPM and up.

more or less, replace the stupid tube connecting the box to the intake manifold and throw in a performance filter (dont care if it is K&N, GMPP, Autozone) into the stock box and there you go.....

+1 But the GMPP box sure does look nice!!! Plus you get to get rid of that stupid, worthless filter "guage".
