4l80e Slipping Reverse

Hi I have a 2000 GMC 6.0 2500hd and the reverse gear is slipping.

I'm trying to find out if this could be a simple fix solinoid etc?

All other gears shift great and strong except reverse you almost don't notice it unless your backing up a hill. So held my brake stepped on gas rpms came up truck didn't try to hard to move. My trans has 115000 mile on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks Dan

First, check the color of the fluid. If black then the reverse clutch drum may be burned up.

 

The most pressure is needed in reverse, so it could be a transmission pump problem.

 

Make sure the linkage is adjusted properly. Look for damage underneath.
