Brakes Help?

Hi,

 

I have a 2004 1500 silverado 4x4 single cab long bed. Anyhow, ever since I have bought it about 6 months ago my breaks have been pretty soft. So far I have had it in 2 times about the breaks, and now for a third. The problem is they that sometimes and only sometimes the breaks well go to the floor and well just slow the truck down, very little breaking power, even normal breaking isnt that strong. This time the guy told me that he is going to bleed the brakes for they havnt ever been bled. and his other thought is that its bypassing the master cylinder, which is what another mechanic told me it could be also. not sure why they didnt check any of this the other two times but anyhow. If there is air in the lines how would it have gotten in there, second, what happens when it bypasses the master cylinder. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the master cylinder needs replacing. They're relatively cheap.

Air won't get in the system unless a part was replaced or the brake fluid got low. I agree with the master cylinder going bad. If it is by passing one of the seals then the brake pedal would go to the floor at times and only the front or rear brakes would apply fully.
