Sagging Rear End

Recommended Posts

Not my rear end, my Sierra's. My wheelchair lift weighs 97 lbs and my wheelchair weighs 230 lbs and man does that made the rear end sag pretty bad. I feel like I have little control of the steering going down the highway. I did a search and found a few replies on the Super Springs. Does anyone use it? I'd really like to have the most comfortable ride possible with or without the additional weight.

Thanks in advance,

It may be because the lift goes into the hitch and after it's all said and done the wheelchair is about a foot away from the tailgate putting alot of weight "past" the rear of the truck. I was just wondering if a member has the Super Springs and how they like them before I placed an order.

I know the hitch on my TT is weighing in a 600+ and I load the back of the truck too, and I sag about 2 inches before I put on the weight dist bars. When I hook them up it is level.

I am shocked to hear yours is sagging that bad.

Yeah, it seems like the wheelchair and lift shouldn't be causing that much sagging. Bigtime, have you considered an add-a-leaf install? Probably your cheapest alternative that should more than solve the problem.

I have just a standard (no weight dist, etc) hitch and my boat/trailer has a tongue weight of about 350 lbs and my truck drops about 1 to 1.5 inches. This was last year before the leveling kit, no difference with the leveling kit.

Air bags might be your answer. They're not terribly expensive, and allow you to tune your ride to what you want. If you put them in and they're too stiff, let some air out. It'll definately help with your saggy rear :troll:

There is a new alternative to the airbags, that I am intersted in. RideRite (I think) has a new airbag setup that is built into a new set of shocks. They are not standard "air shocks" as most of us already know of. I will search them out and edit this post.

They were very impressive, and for a half ton I think that is what I would/will go with if the need arises.

I had RideRite air bags on both of my previous 3/4 tons
