Went Racing Last Night

It was a weird night. Talked to lots of people, they thought my truck was crazy because of the N20 :withstupid: My times were all over the place, I ran 14.8's, some 14.5's and 14.6's, and also ran some of my times from my last time of 14.10's @ 100. 60's are consistent 2.42's, and I somehow got a 2.3. Tried all launching techniques, around the water box with no burn out, around the water box with burn out, thru the water box with burn out, brake stalling at the tree, flashing at the tree, rolling into the throttle, nothing worked. I either need some sticky tires, or this thing just needs some motivation out of the hole via torque converter, I really think it needs some drag radials now, because its not hooking now, and will be worse with a torque converter, but I'm undecided on which I'm getting next.

Edit: Also, saw a big bad Toyota Tundra 4 door run a 14.7 @ 93.

Edit 2: Also got screwed on my nitrous fill, which I think may also relate to my times. Went to a different shop because my speed shop was out, and halfway thru the 5th run I ran out of N20 :sigh: My bottles usually last 5 runs at the strip and multiple street runs, like 5 or 6. I think they decided to fill it with half air half N20. I also had to purge a bunch to get any kind of white plume, and it was surging some during most of the runs I ran like poop. I'm not going back to that shop ever again.

So are you just slipping too much down low or are you just running out of race track? It seems like once you get going your a freight train. You just can't get going. :sigh:

lol@ 4 door tundra doing a 14.7. That's retarded. Just imagine if those things could be tuned?

:withstupid: Actually in one of the runs I pulled a 2nd gen Camaro in 2nd & 3rd. He pulled pretty good off the line and thru first, but after that..I think he had a high 14. Yeah man, this thing really needs some motivation off the line. Everything is really lame until 3000 RPM, I've gotta be loosing a lot of time. I really think I'm going to shoot for a torque converter next, because I don't think it could be spinning so bad it's cutting 2.42 60's, but then again I was running 2.2's back in the day. IMO if it was spinning bad enough I'd either hear it, feel it, or something, you'd think it would fish tail a bit if it was spinning really bad. I wanted to leave traction control on just to see if it activated on the DIC, but IDK what that thing does, if it pulls throttle things could get bad.

I didn't see any of the Tundra's other runs, but yeah that's pretty healthy, it was probably bone stock.

back when i was still running my S10 on the street, I'd drive to the track every friday night. I ran 13's all the time and all over the 13's too. I'd run a 13.2, 13.8, 13.5 with crappy 60' times. I got a used set of slicks from my cousins racer and installed a driveshaft loop and first pass with slicks went 12.6 and 60' times went from 2.20's-2.60's down to a consistant 1.70. hooking up will make a huge difference.

According to the calculator I could hit low 13's @ 100 with a 1.84 60'. I entered everything except my 60' and 1000'. Which makes since, because going from a 2.4 to a 1.8....that is a ton of time saved! Hell, I'd shave almost a full second off my 1/8 mile ET. Time to pick up 2 spare wheels and some radials! I'd think it could at least cut a 2.0 60' on the factory converter with slicks.

It varies from track to track but at the one i race at, unless it says D.O.T. on the slick/cheater slick, you will need a driveshaft loop. Some tracks require driveshaft loops with any kind of slick. Nothing sucks worse than showing up to run the slicks to have tech say no so give you track a call and see what they require so you don't end up like me when i first took slicks.

I already looked into it, I'm pretty sure you need full slicks to require a D/S loop at the track i go to, just about everyone there runs the street legal radials. But I've also heard that any vehicle that runs quicker than 13.99 has to run one also. The tech inspection at the track is a joke, so there's no concern  But thanks for the heads up!

Edit: looked into it a bit, and it's both combined, running faster than 13.99 with slicks requires loop, I'm not sure if street legal drag radials apply, but I don't think so. Could be wrong.

I dunno what's going on either you lost low end with that cam or its your tune. I remember watching your vids when you were stock with just tune running 14.9's all night and you were a raped ape out of the hole.

I ran 14.71's right after the cam on the W4M tune and ran the same 60's as I did tune only. But I'm pretty sure W4M leaves abuse mode and TM and all that stuff on his tunes, and now I don't have any of it. I think I have 20% TM left between shifts and thats it. Edit: I think I'm going to get drag radials first, and if my 60' doesn't get much better I know it's not a traction issue, but rather a tune issue.

gotta be the tune imo,I'd think you'd be able to tell if you were spinning that much.I think it should easily be a low 13 sec truck

I will be extremely pissed if its the tune...$500 for dyno tuning..it better not be the damn tune. I think that's why I'm wanting some radials first to see if it is spinning. IMO a truck like this can cut at least 2.1 60's with drag radials on the factory converter. I leave for my 2 weeks in the summer deal for the reserves (which is actually 3 weeks) pretty soon, I'll have some extra change for mods afterwards. If I come back with at least $1800 I was considering a 6.0 or LS1 swap, if I could find one with decent miles, say 40K at max. That or a stall and bigger cam...but really wanting some more displacement.
