When the snow is deep, and I am winding through neighborhoods, I turn it off. If the truck goes sideways it kicks in A LOT, and in the 20-25 HPH zones, if I am doing a lot of turns through a big neighborhoods I turn it off. It gets very annoying in that situation.

 

Otherwise, it is always on.

The reason i asked i just install a kenwood 2 meter radio in front of the switch and it's hard to turn off but in the year i have owned it a have never turned it off i do live in oklahoma and will be moving to utah in two weeks lots of snow their

The only times I can really think of that I held the button long enough to turn off Stabilitrak was when the roads were slick, no one was around, and I wanted to play around / have fun. Like our friend from the Great White North said, it can get pretty annoying, at times.. BUT, it HAS saved my tail a time or two.

Yeah, the only time I have turned mine off is like everybody else...............when I wanted to have a bit of fun after a rain.

is there a way to turn this totally off? when i hold the button for 5-7sec it says stabilitrak off, but then when i want to have some fun and spin the tires, it'll still blink on and off and my tires stop spinning

I think you have to push the button "ONCE" to turn off TRACTION CONTROL and then pust it AGAIN to turn off STABILITRAC.

 

Then BOTH systems are off.

 

It sounds like your TRACTION CONTROL is still "ON".

I turn it off when I need to accellerate somewhat hard out of one of those uneven driveways that causes the vehicle to move around a bit. That seems to anger stabilitrak. So I'll just turn it off. Otherwise, it pretty much keeps to itself. Of course, there is no snow around here... and it's AWD.

It might be different on your Cat. But, on my Sierra, you just press and hold the button. First, it says "Traction Control Off." Then, a few seconds later, the DIC displays "Stabilitrak Off." Total "hold down" time is probably somewhere between 5 and 10 seconds. Basically, when I want it "all" off, I just hold it down 'til I see "Stabilitrak Off."

It works great on ice, good in light snow, not so much in mud or deep snow, sometimes you need wheelspin to get out of trouble.

On the Cadillac.... you CAN turn off Traction Control... but you CAN'T turn off Stabilitrac.

I turn mine off when I remember. For some reason mine cuts power when I step on it to pass when I am driving at 25-30 mph. It drops down to first, starts to go, cuts power, and then comes back on. I absolutely hate it. If you could turn it off full time I would.
