Dads Suburban Dont Run

Hey guys, Im new here. Just bought the nicest truck I ever had, 05 Silverado 4x4 ex-cab. But I was actually hoping you guys could help me out.

 

My father is a contractor and hes out of town on a job. He has a 99 suburban 4x4 with a 5.7L with about 200K on it. Says it just died while he was driving. Let it sit for a few minutes and itll fire up for a min as long as hes got his foot into it and itll run for a few a minute or so but then it just dies again. We put in a new fuel pump a few months ago and my he says he can hear it cycle when he hits the key.

 

Thats all I know right now. Were pretty chevy-savy so we can fix most things ourselves, and my father might even have his code scanner with him. I was just hoping someone could point us in the right direction to look for a problem.

 

Any help is appreciated.

For starters, is there any codes? Perhaps an EGR issue.

Front to back...Could be a bird stuck in the MAF or the cat converter could have taken a dump...There are 1,000 things that could cause it. Codes would help a TON.

Congrats on the new truck. I'm with the others on the burb issue. Is it setting any codes?

Ok, just talked to him and got a little more info than the voicemail that he left me yesterday. Although while I was talking to him I think he was aperating a piece of machinery so its possible he might have left something out.

 

The check engine light was already on cause of a bad o2 sensor. And it does fire up every time he hits the key and has full power, not sputtering or anything, then dies out right away. The cat was replaced a few years ago iirc. Still not sure if he has his scanner or not though.
