Steering Squeel

When turning I can feel what seems to be rubber rubbing on metal in the steering wheel. It also sounds like Chewbaca from Star Wars. Someone has suggested that it might be the steering wheel postion sensor but this noise is coming from the engine compartment area. It's not the pump either. What could it be? It has gotten worse.

I had noise coming from the contact between the big rubber-grommet piece that allows the steering shaft to go from inside the cab to the engine bay and the intermediate steering shaft. I put grease on the black plastic vibration dampener on the outside of the I-shaft and the noise went away.

 

Hope it isn't serious.

There is definately rubber making contact with metal somewhere.
