Brake System Leak

2002 GM Sierra K1500 w/ ABS and 4 wheel disc. Puddle of hydraulic fluid underneath fuel tank. When pedal is depressed flid leaks from a unit located just above the fuel tank attached to the driver's side frame rail. What is this unit? Does the fuel tank have to be dropped to access the unit? What could be leaking?

That would be your Brake Pressure Modulator Valve, part of the anti lock braking system. You shouldn't have to remove the fuel tank to perform maintenance on this unit.

Have you tried to tighten the brakes lines running to the BPMV? It's possible it could be leaking from there.

After doing a lil further research it seems that it could be also leaking from the ECBM (electronic control brake module) which is mounted directed above the BPMV assembly. You're gonna have to get under it and find out where it's leaking from. A loose line would definitely be the easiest fix but it's doubtful.

are any of the lines going in and out of rusty? just today i put new brake lines almost all around a sierra... salty coast air doesnt do the lines real well... lol.
