Maximum Transmission Temperature Chevy 2500

I have a new Chevy 2500 Duramax. I tow a trailer (8500lbs). During a recent trip we experienced transmission temperatures on DIC of up to 237 degrees. I have tried to email Chevy asking what the maximum temperature that you can expect. All I get are "canned" answers that don't answer my question. I was told by one Chevy dealer that the guage goes to 325 degrees. I don't know why you would put a guage in and not indicate what the maximum reading should be. I was also told that if it were to get too hot that the engine would shut down. Now that would be helpful going up a long hill with no place to pull out

It's an 2008 so I'm not sure about the LLY.

My 08 GMC LMM runs between 145 and 165 degrees with no load. 237 degrees is reasonable if you are pulling a load. Do not worry.

I pull heavy sometimes(10,000+) and my trans never goes over 210. this weekend I pulled 8500lbs back from the beach and trans never even got to 200 even on the big hills. in the winter, my trans runs 160-170 towing, summer its around 190-200 on the hills. i'd be worried about 237. heat is the worst thing for an automatic transmission.
