-12 mm 9 inch wide wheel will stick out a mile... maybe two. That's about 45mm further out PLUS the wheel is 2 inches wider than stock. All of the posts I've seen on GMT800 trucks shows people using +25mm offset wheel (or similar) OEM is something like +30 mm.

Looking at the picture of that wheel, it doesn't look like a negative offset wheel.

ok, i found the same wheel with a 15 mm offset that is an 8 inch wheel, think that will be any better, also how do you guys think that wheel will look on my truck ?

Truck looks good. I believe on tirerack.com you can see the wheel on your make and model vehicle give it a shot. Other than that it hard to tell how a wheel will look on a truck compared to just a pictue by itself. Mine are 8.5 with -6mm offset. The edge of the wheel is about even with the edge of the fender. I am adding fender flares to give em a little coverage because I am gonna get 285's eventually.

Ok, I've got a really dumb question that's always bugged me: What the hell is the difference between backspacing and offset?

Backspacing is the depth of the rim from the mounting surface to the edge of the rim.

Offset is the measurement from the centre of the wheel to the mounting surface.

Ok, so it's basically 2 different ways of measuring the 'same' thing?

Yeah kind of, the flange(what you attach your weights to) kinda makes it hard to calculate the offset from the backspace and wheel measurements*. Its easier to know your back spacing if you going to have clearance issues with tie rod ends, shocks etc. And to know both for other clearance issues such as tires hitting fenders, mudflaps.. etc

* For wheel width you measure from the inside flange(bead seat) to the other inside. For the back space you measure from the outside of that flange to the mounting surface. So there is the width of the flange that screws up your offset calculaton.

I tried to make this precise, concise and economical... but I failed.

It's harder than it first appears to explain! You did good.

just saw the post but Justin explained it well

so you think if i got the -12 offset it would stick out past my fender flares? i have the z71 package with factory flares and i would like the wheels to stick out further than factory, just not out past the flares but if they were even with the flares that would be fine, so do you think the 9 inch with -12 offset or the 8 inch with +15 offset ? with 285 bfg's of course

The difference between those two rims is 27mm.. which is a little bit over an inch. Your stock rims would be +31. it would stick out 1 11/16" out further than stock. I don't know if they would stick out past, you could always figure it out with the tires you have on your truck. The 285s would be about 11.4" wide. What is the backspacing of the rims you are getting?
